Only rumors i have heard is release in august. 2 cpu lines at launch. A 6 and 8 core line, that is focused on single core benches. Probably more focused on pci heavy gamers. The other line being a 10 and 12 core that is focused multi-core. Focused on professionals. Both cpus having 48 pcie lanes. Support for intels optane, and better support for m.2 gen 3 4x. Along with all those software/firmware support on the z270 like that encoding. Thats it no pcie gen 4.0, no new usb, no ddr5, no other-than-silicone cpus rumors that I have heard. Seems more like a refresh for x99 to get some of the newer features that z270 has, and splitting the cpu line for lower cost games and upper end pros. This may be a response to ryzen stating that their 8 cores are cheaper. Intel makes a 7800k and 7850x, 6 and 8 core gaming cpus, for ~350 and ~500 respectfully. While making a 7900k and 7950x, 10 and 12 core professional cpus, for ~1000 and ~1500 respectfully. I could be totally wrong though these are after all just rumors.

What are your secret? What do you know? We all know EVGA Techs know everything about anything IT related. Seriously though I am semi anxious to see x299 micro and see if it has a m.2 wifi card spot. No bluetooth is killer for me as everything is slowly getting connected to bluetooth in my house from my NAS to cell phones to even my headset and house heating/cooling/doorbell. Though not looking forward to spending money if its that great of a upgrade.

The term "Skylake" would encompass the whole broad range of CPU that use Skylake architecture such as Skylake-m, Skylake-x, Skylake-u etc. It's really splitting hairs if someone picks at someone else saying "Skylake for x299" they mean "skylake-x" and vice versa. I am interested if Intel is really dropping -e for -x for Skylake. -X doesn't make sense for a "target segment". -e does as it stands for enthusiast which is a "target segment". The picture in your link is very fuzzy for me so I might see this wrong. I don't think the Kabbylake-x will have 16 pcie lanes considering Ryzen has 24, and that's their competition.

Thanks Bcavnaugh, looks like I'll be back waiting till fall to build myself, I was really disappointed about Ryzen pcie lanes. Gives me time to start buying water cooling parts.

You know I would have gone this week with a AMD Ryzen but their are no good Motherboards in Stock anywhere so I will wait now. My next Case is this bad boy Thermaltake CORE X5 Black E-ATX Stackable Liquid Cooling Certified Cube Chassis Case (CA-1E8-00M1WN-00)It is on the way as I type this post. It will be my first single loop duel pump rig.

How long after these things are announced does EVGA typically have a motherboard? Supposedly being announced May 30th for June release.

Intel basically controls when such things can be officially announced by its partners so just sit back and wait.

I understand this, however, what I don't know is historically if there was any lag time or if EVGA had mobos ready to use the day chips arrived at retailers?

Any clue if EVGA is going to make a dual socket x299 for the i9s? The SR-2 was a beast.

I have 3 letter for you: N D A When its out we'll get all info in the world. For now grind your teeth, put fingers in your ears and hum really loud until embargo is lifted. ==== One thing is certain that there will be no dual socket X299 board as consumer chips support only one QPI link/CPU. You'll have to go with server grade chipset (like C612 for Haswell-E). Asus usually have something on offer, but that's about it, and Xeons don't support OC past let say 2 or 3 MHz on the bus lane.
