Jacob confirmed this on Twitter.
Go buy a 2070, then immediately enter the Step-Up queue. Boom... you're guaranteed a 3080 card... you just have to wait for it, and in the mean time you have another card you can put in your computer to use.

@CarattiniJoey
@EVGA_JacobF I know responding to people on twitter is last thing you wanna do, but I am curious if I buy a 2070s off the evga website and register for step-up asap, would I be guaranteed the 3080 eventually without having to worry about the f5 battle?

Yes.

@Willy_Drama
This is interesting. Can I get an explanation on what this means. I buy the 2070 Super for $579 and then what happens when I can land a 3080 FTW?

@EVGA_JacobF
You pay the difference in price only.

@TheAiredaleDC
It's disappointing that you can operate the massively complicated and byzantine step-up program and not manage this launch properly at all or take reservations/preorders.

    That's insane lol Why can't I just pre-pay for the dam card!
    I don't care if it takes 4 months or more. I am tired of playing your games.

    I'd debated doing a step-up as well, but I was hoping I might get a card this year. I was hoping to get Watchdogs and the 1 year GFN subscription with a legit purchase.. If I can't get buy the time Big Navi launches, I'm gonna grab a 2080 and step up to the 3090 FTW3 Ultra if possible. If not, waiting game extends I guess.

    What a waste.  What happens to all the returned 2070s.  Are they sold as refurbs or as new?

    Jacob,

    If I wanted to do that, I would have done it with my RTX 2080 Ti Kingpins before I sold them in order to pay for a 3090 upon their release.

    I'm guessing they'll be looked over and then sold as B-Stock at a discount.

    Not to mention I have to eat shipping just to get into a queue that should already exist.

    You are looking at probably 5+ months at this point for step up unless they start ramping up production big time.

    Yup it'll probably be a long time, but people have been saying they dont mind waiting months if they have a confirmed card.  Well... now they can put their money where their mouth is.

    If only they double their production to 2 cards a day. One can dream.

    How does that actually work though? Say I go and buy the 2080TI FTW Ultra for $1500 right now. I buy the extended warranty, and now I'm set to wait, and want to step up. What do I do next? Do I then have to wait to see a 3090 FTW Ultra in stock to add to my cart, to then step up that way? Or do I just have to go to a page and select the GPU I want, and then wait, send in my old card when the step up is ready, and be good to go from there?

    I'm confused as I've never had a step-up worth alternative before. 1080Ti came a long time after my 1080, same for 780.

    Probably at this point due to existing step up requests.  I remember seeing a statement that inventory was split between sales and step up.  I have seen zero posts from anyone getting a notice for "Step 2" of the step up program....  There were FTW3 Ultras listed (the only step up option we really had).

    So if none of these cards went to step up then it's probably going to be way more than 5 months at this point.  Luckily a nice amount appeared rather quickly on Ebay for 2x msrp (that's sarcasm btw).

    They should just take orders as backorders with app shipping dates.
    That way everyone that wants one can get in the que.

    When will Step-Up be available for the RTX 3090?
    The RTX 3090 will be added to the Step-Up list at 9AM Pacific time on Thursday 9/24. Unforeseen factors may push this out further. Watch evga.com and our Twitter for more details.

    Yeah watching an eVGA video on youtube where they say the reference products are offered and not usually the FTW. But the FTW Ultra is offered for the 3080, so I guess it's hit or miss.

    Scrolling through Jacobs twitter posts he said it would probably be 1 to 2 weeks for step-ups to start.  Meaning it could be longer.  So I'll assume absolutely zero FTW3 Ultras went to Step up from this batch.  At least half a month to maybe start dealing with an ever growing waiting list... yes it's going to be a while.

    I sure hope they aren't filling any step-up orders until they have adequate inventory to not run out in seconds each time.

    I'm literally just to the point that I'm stock clocking my 1080 ti just to keep it from crapping out on me until I can get a 3080 or 3090. It's only under warranty until Jan or Feb and I'm not sure I can get a new card by then.

    It's pretty comical that they'll keep track of step up card orders, but not accept back orders.

    Go buy a 2070, then immediately enter the Step-Up queue. Boom... you're guaranteed a 3080 card... you just have to wait for it, and in the mean time you have another card you can put in your computer to use.

    I'd have to go back and check exact dates, but my GTX 1080 step up card took several months to arrive.  EVGA was limiting the number of step up cards being sent out per day.

    seems a crazy way of locking one in... (like everyone else, wish we could pre-order.  I'm cool with the wait).

    Thankfully my G2 is on pre order, and I don't have to deal with this drama.  I'm sure NVIDIA is dictating this process madness...

    Thank you, sir. When I click on the link it says the page does not exist.

    So just making sure he didn't take it down.

    I might do this. But only see 2060 with 3-year warranties so I guess that would work right? Never step up before.

    I feel like going that route may bring me a little closer to insanity but it's a nice idea.

    How to get 3080 for $202.77

    Looks like an Antifa uniform to me. I doubt they know what a video card is. They're all angry console pleebs.

    Next time lets hope Nvidia and partners wait until they have enough inventory before starting to sell them...
