Hi Guys and fellow SR-2 owners,

Can we extend the life of the legendary SR-2 board into windows 11? what will it take, can you add a TPM USB dongle?

windows 10 have worked really well on it

looking for input, thank you for your time

Henrik

PS: while I am at it, any recommendation for water cooling for the SR-2?

Henrik

There is no inbuilt tpm for processor X5650 so it wont work but Microsoft is working on the Tpm issue lets wait and see

"but Microsoft is working on the Tpm issue lets wait and see"

What could be done other than Microsoft dropping the total TPM 2.0 requirement for Win 11?? I have not heard of any way to add to motherboards designed without it or at least pins for an add on module?

My guess is there'll be hacks to get Win 11 to install without TPM, but sure doesn't sound like Microsoft is considering rescinding that requirement. I sure hope I'm wrong about that. I have several older systems that won't ever have TPM 2.0. It'd be a shame if they never can run Win 11. I can understand my Microsoft want's to push TPM, but I really hope they make some non hacked way to install it on hardware without TPM for those who have good reason to want to keep specific non TPM hardware running on newer Windows OSes.

SR-2 doesn't even have UEFI for one thing lol, there'll probably be some "workarounds" to get it setup on it but it won't be supported so it'd be like running a hackintosh.

I installed Windows 11 on my 2011 2nd gen Sandy bridge laptop with no UEFI bios. I made a video guide on how to do it.

Try it out and see if it works. Chances are it will work fine...let me know:

It will be interesting to see what the legacy support is like since my parents come to think of it are running an old system I used to use. For them with just checking emails I think it's like a X58 board and a i7 970 with a 1070FTW graphics card. It works fine for them after I put an SSD into it a couple years ago. I would hate to see them have to upgrade but if they do I guess it gives me a reason for new parts.

I haven’t been able to yet, we are having some moisture issues in the walls so I have had to pack everything away till I can resolve it

    Thanks

    Thanks ssj92,

that is great to hear, did you have any issues with drivers? Windows 10 worked really well. So I don’t really expect any issues.

does it ask for the TPM?

    thanks for sharing

It works the same as Windows 10. All drivers are installed. I had to do the registry trick otherwise it said I didn't have secure boot and tpm 2.0.

Has anyone been able to get the EVGA sr-2 working with 96gb memory recently? Using DDR3 2x4 SK Hynix ECC 1333 ram, and can't seem to get it going.
Especially not with windows 11 lol

Here you go!  12x 8GB DDR3 PC3-10700, part number HMT31GR7BFR4C-H9.  I had mine running since 2011; been stable since!

I haven't jumped to Windows 11 yet.  I am contemplating the switch to Apple SoC, maybe a Mac Studio...
