For those of you who don't know and are unaware of the [new] default settings in Windows. (Both 7 and 10) Windows defaults to some sort of dynamic compressor that probably sounds okay on your dinky laptop speakers, but not on most other things. Here are the steps to change it: Right click on the sound icon in the task bar. Select sounds. Click on the playback tab. Select your output device. Click configure. Click next. Under Full-range speakers, check them all. Click next until you can save. I attached some screen shots in case you need some visuals. I usually do this for all the devices listed, unless I'm sure I will never use them. I just don't want someone buying the new EVGA card and saying it sounds like trash without knowing about this.

Thanks for the info! Recently built a windows box and didn't know this. Wish the default was to NOT mess with the sound signal.

Or if you're using the Realtek HD Sound Manager, open the sound manager and select "Full Range" for any speakers you have connected.

Would this make any difference if your sound is ported out to an Amp / Tuner ?

Yes, at lest on my one rig connected to a Sony AV Receiver. My Sony AV Receiver sets the sound type and so on using a single (Digital via S/PDIF) cable

Not sure about newer cards or integrated sound, but I know some of the older cards sound better when you up the default format. If you go into the properties of your sound device, under the advanced tab you can make the change. I usually just put it to the highest setting even if it's way overkill. Refer to the screen shot if you like.

I can't set mine to the highest rate and bit depth, winamp will not play any music if i do that. Maybe later this year i might give EVGA NU Audio sound card a try, see if i can hear any improvements over my current sound card. Might be hard to tell with my Sennheiser Game Zone "gaming" Stereo headset.

Don't cry too hard. Search for 'xiph.org meet your ears' and read the article. It's a real page scroller. In light of what it enlightens and your results, you may want to try something more in the middle.

if it is a desktop pc try pluging it on on the rear of the pc, not the front if that doesn't work then probably the wires are loose and you ll have to solder it

I have noticed in my computer that the cord to the front panel receives interference from some of the components it goes by. I rerouted it and have not noticed the interference again, but I haven't tried all the cases where it was super obvious yet.
