Kappa no Jutsu I hope this maintains the warranty. I saw posts on reddit saying people were getting denied rma because they opened up the card for the same procedure.
That wasn’t EVGA cards, unless it was country specific, because EVGA doesn’t deny warranties for opening the card. They deny warranty for physical damage to the card. Reddit is full of lies, and misunderstood information.

Thanks for the guide, I have an old 1080 which can probably get new life by reapplying the thermal pad.

Can you believe that 4 years later, I still haven't put these thermal pads on the back of my GTX 1080? I really don't think that it does much of anything. Especially for my water-cooled card.

I have had the best results from spreading the thermal paste, or using the cross-X application. But, of course, a little can be too much, and too little is still too much :P

Hi,
I might have missed this info(in case, sorry). Does changing thermal pads void the manufacturer's warranty? Thank you to whoever will reply!

g.thoms how old are these cards?
These were 1070 and 1080 series cards, so if you look at the date of the first post, you will get a great idea of how old the cards are. ursinifra Hi,

As long as you do not damage the product while changing the pads, it will not void the warranty.

Thank you for the info. So in case of a return, or future issues with the card, I can still send it to EVGA without the need to somewhat replace the original pads? Also, do you know if the same logic applies to cards that were purchased from retailers? (for insntance media markt, etc). Thanks

EVGA product launch are EVGA products no matter where you buy them from. The card has two serial numbers on them, and those serial numbers must be intact and match. There can not be any damage to the PCB, so dropping the card or breaking off components, or even scratching the pcb with a screwdriver while trying to remove parts will void the warranty.
Second hand cards have a slightly different warranty time frame, and many people will sell their cards broken so that other users can “try to warranty” it themselves, which usually means the warranty was already denied or they would never say that themselves.
You do not have to change the pads, and can send the card back with the original pads. Reddit blew the temperatures WAY out of proportion years ago, which ended in EVGA changing the design of the coolers they utilize, and the design change was very beneficial. Thermal pads do not dry out very quickly, and will last a very long time.
