Hey I was just wondering if anyone here could point me in the right direction. I'm trying to decide on what RAM to get for my first time build I have an XFX 790i Ultra SLI Motherboard and need to know what would be the best choice from the list of RAM below: Memory DDR3 - Dual Channel PRODUCT COMPARE View More: Memory Corsair XMS3 2048MB PC10600 DDR3 Corsair Dual Channel 4096MB PC10600 DDR3 Memory Corsair XMS3 2GB Dual Channel DDR3 RAM Corsair XMS3 4GB Dual Channel DDR3 RAM Corsair XMS PC10600 RAM Rating: Order Today, Ships Today Order Today, Ships Today Order Today, Ships Today Order Today, Ships Today Order Today, Ships Today Only $ 64.99 Sku: C13-7084 Only $ 142.99 Sku: C13-8052 Only $ 54.99 Sku: C13-8218 Only $ 95.99 Sku: C13-8220 Only $ 247.99 Sku: C13-8252 Memory Module Specifications Memory Category Desktop Desktop Desktop Desktop Desktop Memory Type DDR3 DDR3 DDR3 DDR3 DDR3 Memory Speed PC10600 PC10600 PC10666 PC10666 1333MHz PC10600 Memory Speed MHz 1333MHz 1333MHz 1333MHz 1333MHz 1333MHz Memory Size 2 x 1024MB 2 x 2048MB 1024MB 2048MB Total Memory Size 2GB 4GB 2GB 4GB 8GB Memory Modules 2 2 2 2 4 Memory Channels Dual Dual Dual Dual Dual Memory Socket DIMM DIMM DIMM DIMM DIMM Memory CAS Latency 9-9-9-27 9-9-9-24 9 9 9-9-9-24 Pins 240 240 240 240 204 Memory Timing 9-9-9-24 9-9-9-24 9-9-9-24 Voltage 1.5V 1.5V ECC No No No No Condition Warranty LIFETIME parts; LIFETIME parts LIFETIME parts; LIFETIME parts LIFETIME parts; LIFETIME parts LIFETIME parts; LIFETIME parts LIFETIME parts; LIFETIME parts Price Only $ 64.99 Sku: C13-7084 Only $ 142.99 Sku: C13-8052 Only $ 54.99 Sku: C13-8218 Only $ 95.99 Sku: C13-8220 Only $ 247.99 Sku: C13-8252 I do know that the motherboard can only handle up to 8gz which is what I want to purchase I just don't know which would be best. I plan on going EVGA GPU's and most likely from here on out everything EVGA since XFX don't even have forums I think because I can't seem to find them. Plus I only like the Dog on there products. I know NOOB. Thanks for the help guy's.

Somebody's a corsair fan. Where's Chevell? He's converted a lot of us (rightly so) to G.Skill. Altho the 790 takes ddr3, it's kind of inbetween worlds for us who still got 780's & those who have the newer X58's, P55's. So idk what he'd say.

For the 790i, I would consider using the Patriot 2x2GB PVS34G2000LLKN 8-8-8-23-2t.

Can't go wrong with Patriot or OCZ, far cheaper than Corsair, and maybe about the same amount of performance and overclocking potential. I've been a Corsair fan for the last two builds, but they are getting to be a bit pricey anymore, and think that the former two brands are better bang for the buck now.

I have OCZ myself but would prefer Corsair. Regardless of what ram you want you can get 4GB but that is only good if you are running 64 bit operating systems. For 32 bit operating systems 2GB is enough.

I'm going to cast my vote for Mushkin Redlines as well. On my older system they are still performing wonderfully. I have Blacklines in my new pc and they are great also.

What will you be using the ram for? Overclocking? Video editing? Gaming?

chevell For the 790i, I would consider using the Patriot 2x2GB PVS34G2000LLKN 8-8-8-23-2t. I used this with my 790i and it rocked. Anything with D9GTS/R will work great.

I'm a corsair fan myself, I got the Dominator series in my Asus P6T x58. Did you check the Corsair website for your 790i, I do even see those stick supported by your board, only the Dominator is. Something to think about...

Guys the thing you have to remember here is he is on a nforce powered board. These are not the same as X58 or P55. They dont tend to play nicely with lower voltage ram as its not what they expect to see. The patriot kits mentioned above would likely be your best bet, they work extremely well with the 790i chipset.

Believe me, I *was* a Corsair fan during the DDR2-800 days of building, but with DDR3-1600, I usually support the underdog brands more, like OCZ, Patriot, Mushkin, and the like. It's not that I don't like Corsair anymore, but in this economy, there are brands of memory that I feel offer the same performance for a smaller price tag. Perhaps Corsair will be on top with me again, but maybe in another couple of years from now.

I would not consider any of those brands "underdogs" I put both Gskill and Mushkin well above Corsair. The performance you get for the cost on corsairs ram just isnt worth it to me. My Perfect Storms run 2000mhz 7-7-7-21 1T with stock volts and cost a whole lot less then comparable GTs
