I could really use some help, I bought new graphics card in March, registered it with EVGA of course but I'm getting these freezes in games that spike the GPU to 100% usage and then crash eventually. It is never recovering, always the visuals freeze, I can still hear the game in the background and talk to people in discord. Anything video wise in the background crashes too, say a YouTube video that was paused. This is insane, I ran SLI'd 970's from EVGA for YEARS and this didn't happen, do I need to warranty claim my card or something? Getting crashes from PUBG, Farcry 5 and Rainbow Six Siege. All of these crash in the same way, the visuals freeze and then about 15-30 seconds later they crash to desktop. Can anyone help me, I tired an older graphics driver and my install of windows is fine, I'm almost certain that this is a GPU issue. I need to know what to do. I7-6700k (No Overclocking) Cooled by a Corsair H60 Closed circuit water-cooler. EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti SC2 GAMING, 11G-P4-6593-KR (Tried turning it down to 90% power didn't help) The GPU never goes over 60C Windows 10 32 Gigs of Ram Games on both an SSD(Samsung) and a HDD from WD(WD Black) Please Help, John

You'll most likely need to rma the card. Try doing #3 or #4 listed here to see if it helps or not.

Hi Nakensu and welcome to the EVGA forums! It looks like you have already contacted our support and you have an advanced RMA pending which should be approved in the next 1-2 business days but feel free to call back or email if you have any other questions.

OK so, got my new card and it will finish a benchmark now but it's still having issues(Successful RMA, thanks EVGA Nice service). Some of the same, however when I turn down the Power target to 80-85%(Precision X) I can get stable performance and normal play in games. Some stutter on starting and stopping in some games, some have suggested this might be a PSU issue, how could I tell if my card isn't getting enough power.

Well generally speaking if you're having similar issues where reducing the power draw results in increased stability on a second GPU, the odds are now that the issue is your PSU. Unless you've got a load tester about all you can do to test the output of your PSU is see how far the +12v drops under a full load with a digital volt meter. The absolute minimum is 11.4v. That will not tell you if your PSU is supplying dirty power because of age. What is the make and model of your PSU? That should have been asked already.

What hemi said. What do your cpu temps look like when the game is stuttering?

EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2, 80+ GOLD 850W, Fully Modular, EVGA ECO Mode Bought in Feb of 2015 from Amazon. CPU generally sits somewhere around 65-74C during a full or heavy load depending on the game, though generally never higher than that. Temps are pretty alright.

Testing the card in another system will let you know if the card is still the problem, or if there is something wrong with your rig.

I RMA'd the first card, second card is able to finish a benchmark unlike the first but still crashes games when the power goal is set to the default 100%. Like I turn it down to 80% and I'm getting stable-ish performance, no crashing. Seige lags oddly when I start running from a dead stop but eh. So what do you think?

Time to find another system to test the card in.

I'd start out with using ddu to clean out the gpu drivers in your system. I'd then try a complete clean install of windows if you continue to have issues. Lastly you'd need to start testing/replacing the hardware in your system until you find the culprit.

Well here's the question, If I turn down the power and it is suddenly stable wouldn't that point to a power issue?

Yes, it could either mean the card has a problem, or there is a power issue.

I don't think the card itself has a problem. Seeing as I just RMA'd it. I could see it being a power issue, like nothing changed except I went to a different type of card from 2 SLI'd SC2 970's Those worked fine. If it matters I've been getting crackling and popping audio when I'm running a big program.

Two 970's use more power than a single 1080 ti. Pretty much tells me there is something wrong with your card, or something else is wrong with your system.

Ok so what were my options for troubleshooting?

You need to test the card in another system first before you start troubleshooting your system as the problem could still be coming from the card itself. You could replace your entire rig and the problem could still be there if the problem is coming from the card itself.
