I just purchased a new EVGA GeForce 8400 GS to replace the defective video card in my Dell XPS 8700.  I am having difficulty with the HDMI port on my GPU.  I know my HDMI cables and TV worked fine with the GeForce GT 635 that was originally installed in the Dell.

Is there anything I need to do to "activate" the HDMI port?

Any guidance would be appreciated.

Is it only the HDMI that's having issues, or do the other outputs work fine?  The only thing needed to "activate" the port, sometimes, is to install the drivers for the card.  Are you seeing the Dell screen?

Based on your other post here:  http://forums.evga.com/FindPost/2412807, it seems like you might have issues other than the graphics card, such as a bad PSU or memory.  If that's the case, your original card may be fine, unless you've been able to test it elsewhere.

Btw, feel free to edit the title of the thread to whatever you want.  You originally posted in a dead thread, and I split the post into its own new thread.

Only the HDMI port is having issues at this point.  The VGA port and the DVI port are both working correctly.  I have a Dell 23" IPS LED monitor attached to the VGA port.  My television is connected to the HDMI port.  I will reinstall the drivers and see if that corrects the problem.

I give up.  I am buying an DVI to HDMI cable to get my TV working with this video card.  I am disappointed that the HDMI port does not work correctly, but I can not spend any more time trying to troubleshoot this issue.

Have you at least tested with a different HDMI Cable?

Old Dog! It sounds to me like maybe the TV input is wrong, or the desktop isnt set up for multiple monitors?
Just asking if that is all checked before going for the DVI/HDMI adapter.
Even though that part is like $12

Did you try disconnecting the vga/dvi and only having the HDMI cable connected?

A lot of cards can only do digital or analog, not both at the same time.

VGA is analog and HDMI is digital, you may not be able to use both connections at the same time from the card.
