Moved from the third post: That's actually wrong. The backplate didn't come with any srcrews. After installing the backplate, I ended up with the infamous bad contact the hydro popper is known for. I'm actually on a replacement 690 that was supposed to have fixed the waterblock issue. Clearly, as one of the first people to have reported this problem, my replacement wasn't actually fixed. I ended up having to reinstall the card three times. The last time I gave up and lightly screwed everything on, making sure the screws didn't go any further and put too much strain on the screw holes. It worked, but the temps weren't phenomenal. Mid 40's and 50's. Before installing the backplate, I was getting temps in the low 30's and 40's. After installing and draining my loop 3 times, I thought screw it, I'll just live with these temps. Its not like 30C and 50C is any difference when these cards are voltage locked anyway. Thinking I had finally got everything working, I fired up unigine. 2 minutes in I hear a high pitched capacitor whine and the my computer hangs at a black screen. It refused to power on after that. It died. I'm thinking one of the chokes gave out or perhaps the memory on the card just couldn't take the heat. Surprisingly, the backplate gets pretty hot now that it spreads the heat from the card. Now I patiently wait for my Rma to be approved. They refused to cross ship me a 690 even though I've been through 3 hydro coppers, 2 690's and I still have a dead 690. Oh well, what can I do :/ Original Post: My 690 backplate should be coming in today and I was wondering if I should use the screws that came with the waterblock or the screws that will come with the backplate. With the hydrocoppers being finicky with the screw lengths and issues with contact, I'm leaning towards to just using the screws that they hydrocopper came with. At least I know those screws work with the card. A bit of extra material from the backplate shouldn't cause any ill effects. Unless the backplate screws are completely different. Any definitive answer on this? EDIT: A couple of shots I took and uploaded before everything went to ****. The current pitiful state of my computer, saran wrapped tubes and incomplete loop. >.< Can't even use the old 8800GTS I had in there while I was piggybacking off of that earlier. My CPU would fry without proper cooling.

If the B/P screws are longer than the original screws, and the difference in length is roughly equal to the hole depth of the insert cups of the B/P, use the screws that came with the B/P. But, I bet EVGA already did that.

lol yeah all from the 690 hydrocopper. Its the waterblock that caused me all this greif. Since I had to RMA my good 690 and bad block for a serviced 690 with a new block, I apparently ended up getting a bad 690 that just died on me today.

That sucks to hear man ![](https://forums.evga.com/upfiles/smiley/sad.gif) , hate to see you've had so many issues with this card and block. I haven't had a single issue since putting this XSPC block on my 690. Hope you get your new card and block fast.
I will either find a way, or make one. ٩(๏̯͡๏)۶

That's some bad luck man, spending that much on GPUs just to have nothing but problems. At least EVGA is taking care of you, just sucks having to wait for RMA.

whoa whoa whoa stop the clock, what do you mean it doesn't come with any screws? EDIT: Never mind I read the PDF on how to install the BP with the existing screws that comes with the stock ones. Also I'm sorry that you've gone through so many 690s, hope EVGA does you right this time with this bad 690.

Geez, thats crazy. Contact one of the EVGA people on the forums here and see if they cant help you out with cross shipping or something?

The kicker is my second 690 replacement did come cross shipped overnight, partially because it got bumped up the chain. However, this time the rep on the phone was steadfast about a regular 5 day ground shipping was all he was approved for. So my 690 is on its way there from Michigan to California. Once they get it, they'll send another one out. All this time, my computer is literally dripping water as I'm just using saran wrap to seal up the tubes. That also means my computer's out of action for up to 2 weeks because the loop is incomplete an I can't even jam in an old video card to make it work. Pounding this out on an iPhone XD

Gosh, sorry to hear of these problems. Makes my stomach sick just thinking about all those RMA's. Also, this doesn't take 5 minutes to pop the thing back in since you are running with water. When I purchased the blocks for my 680's as I recall I ended up with 3 total sets of screws. (Note: I purchased blocks separately) 1.) Screws that came in the card 2.) Screws that came with backplate (purchased sep) 3.) Screws that came with the waterblock (purchased sep) The screws that came with the backplate as I remember were identical to the ones that came WITH the card. I had to use the waterblock screws to install since they were longer. I know they are different models, but maybe this will help:)

LarsV So should we mount our backplates with our hydro coppers using screws that came with the hydro copper? That's what i would do i have a 670 FTW but the same theory applies. XSPC WB with a 670 ftw back plate using the XSPC mounting screws - I used 9 mounting points and the rest i couldn't use but everything is flush and tight.

Yeah. The replacement had the waterblock and backplate on it. Temps are decent nut not amazing. 40 to 45c under load even though I'm running a rx360 ex140 and ex240 on a d5.oh well. Never going to take this thing apart, ever.
