Is this a known issue? If not, I wanted to give a warning.
My computer would not turn on at all the other day. It appeared to be a PSU issue so I replaced my old one. When I turned on the computer to test the power smoke, sparks and fire came from the graphics card. The mobo seems to be fine. Is EVGA aware of this issue? How is the RMA service here?
Thanks. This seems important!

EVGATech_RayH Hello, this sounds like a fairly common card failure. Sections of the card can carry hundreds of amps and can spark out when they short. It is shocking if you have not seen a failure like that before, but all PC components are specifically made not hold a flame. This is why we warranty the products. I do not see anything registered to your account. Please register that card at EVGA.com > Service > Product Registration, then please contact us either through phone at 888-881-3842 or open up a Support Ticket at EVGA.com > Service > Support Ticket and we will get that unit replaced for you.
Its shocking that you say its shocking if you've never experienced that. I'm 58 and have been using and building gaming pc's for ever and it's never happened to me, hope I'm not jinxing myself.

Yeah, it sounds like a cap split. That's what they do when they blow. They are scored on top usually and will release gas and a little flame from there when they go. It can be startling but they go right out and the psu should shut your rig down if its a decent unit and not some gutless wonder.

In my years, I've seen sound cards burst into flames, emachines power supplies shoot 2 foot blue flames out the back of the machine (multiple machines), and worse. These things can, and will happen from time to time, but are rare, and you should count yourself lucky that you get to see such a spectacular event in person! Evga will take care of you, so don't worry mate! The best one I ever saw happen in person was when someone had their CPU literally explode. It had a hole blown right through it (and the motherboard) due to the motherboard not regulating the voltage properly. IT WAS AWESOME. Everyone thought a gun had gone off haha.

Sounds like you let out the magic smoke. That magic smoke is what make the card work :( jfw06013 I used a Corsair power cable on EVGA power supply to power my 1050 Ti and it blew up the video card, 3 hard drives and the motherboard.
I did the same thing to a hard drive once on accident, enermax cable on some other PSU. They looked almost the same but after the magic smoke came out of the drive it never worked again.

I don't go that far, but I will not leave the house with it running (or away from the computer for hours at a time). With SSD's it is just easier to power down and back up after a few hours (whenever I come back).

I've had a few things fail in spectacular ways like this, one was an EVGA GTX 760. Registered the card on EVGA site and applied for RMA. A quick phone call and some pictures had me sending the card off for replacement. Got back a perfectly working replacement and was on about my business. Was a very pleasant experience.

Hey guys, sorry this is definitely not a common issue and is extremely rare, there are multiple safety measures that are built into the card and power supply units to prevent this from ever occurring. Please contact us at 888-880-3842 or support@evga.com so we can get it corrected.

Apparently, there was a reason that his computer was not booting then? He put in the new power supply and found out why?

Is it me only who remembers when 1080's had issues with burning VRM's when they first came out and apparently there was an issue with thermal pads so EVGA was sending replacement pads to ppl. This is just one of many videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LKOGiYM4Ac On the other hand, I don't remember the exact name I think is Gamers Nexus was testing 1080s for that reason and even thou he pointed out that the area of VRM wasn't been cooled enough or should i say was very toasty , there was more to the burning cards and pads replacement. Did that ever got sorted out, sorry I'm not up to date with news and fixes so maybe I'm way off here

This is what happened to mine. I had an early unit and noone from EVGA has ever contacted me to let me know I put time bomb in my computer. So not only did they sell me a card they knew could catch on fire but it it will cost me 50 bucks in shipping and 3 weeks to get a working card. And it will be a refurbished until at that. This is unacceptable. I will not be buying anything from EVGA again.

Might not have been totally EVGA's fault, they don't build their cards from scratch so its hard to pin anyone ob that

Faulty IC's were the cause of the problem back then. Thermal pads & heat had nothing to do with it.
Yes Gamers Nexus mentioned, it was more than Pads. So what happens to all those cards that ppl have purchased, was that issue only specific to some of the 1080's or all

If the card popped on you it would get replaced via warranty. The issue originally started with the 1080 ftw, other cards like the 1070 ftw were affected too I believe as they used the same IC's as the 1080 FTW.
