Gtx 1060 3gb motherboard compatibility

I'm wondering is a gtx 1060 3gb be compatible with a gigabyte z77-ds3h. I have installed the card, connected the power. But it goes to my bios boot screen and will go to further. I can't even get into my bios with it.

    Make sure your bios is up to date. You can use the igpu on a cpu to update your bios.

    I have the single fan version and it runs on everything i own
     
    must be something else wrong
