1.) Be an ELITE member with an associate code already handy!
2.) If you get to the point where you actually add the card to your cart. Don't keep smashing that F5, navigate to:
3.) I tried paying with Paypal (crashed for 15min) and then with just a credit card (crashed for 25 min). But then I used Affirm -- worked IMMEDIATELY.

Yeah, I had a helluva time getting PayPal to work - finally gave up on it since it had to go out, and then back to EVGA. Finally got my order through using a CC - which still took a very long and heart stopping time to make work (over a darn hour all said and done).

Re: Got a 3090 during server overload times - (This is how I did it) Secret Tricks! 2020/09/24 08:34:40 (permalink)
There were 2 issues today that i noticed

  1. Their web servers are woefully inadequate for launch day shenanigans. They should beef these up for launch and then taper them down as traffic goes back to normal levels.
  2. The checkout problems were a different issue - Checkout usually goes through a different server and typically is a payment processing server (third party) If they have a bad payment processor OR that payment processor didnt ramp up their servers you get what you got today - frozen checkouts. That is why the affirm option worked and the paypal and credit didnt, those 2 go on the payment processor server while the affirm one goes through the affirm server. Far less people use affirm than the other 2 options so it wasnt overloaded like the payment processor.
They can fix this by doing what Amazon does - capture the order and payment info and in real time update their stock levels on the back end. Then process that order and payment later as they can. This can all be automated - orders get captured and placed in an order queue. As the server can, it moves through the queue processing each order in turn.

Result? Anyone that added a card to cart would able to complete the order with no issues regardless of payment method.

Crazy thing - I added it to cart from the regular 30 series product page. The Elite portion of the site never did anything useful for me.

I did already have an affiliates discount code token applied to my order - which may, or may not have helped me today during that crazy 1+ hour process.

As bad as it was, it was better than the 3080 launch or the 3080FTW3 stick launch yesterday.

If only that is what they did I would actually have an order in.

Yea, that was my initial thought too. I used it just this once and will just immediately pay it off and then never ever use Affirm again.

Also, if you're able to buy using Affirm with a 0% interest rate then there's really no difference, in my opinion.

Did you have to apply for it and run your credit and all? How long was the process?

Affirm isn't available for Canadians.
So I got stuck trying with Paypal and a Credit cards but never succeeded.

Congrats on your purchase. Hope you enjoy it.

I didn't have an Affirm account before so I had to do it quickly on the spot. It was quick to apply as you just needed your name, birthdate and last 4 digits of SSN.

I did the same thing for over an hour and it kept failing non stop. It is the luck of the draw to get the payment gateway to stay online/ connected long enough to take your order.

I got to the last page to "place Order" like 40 times and entered my credit card info every time and Nada. 90% of the time the site would crash/ hang when I would check the box to confirm the order and 10% of the time it worked and the "Place order" button would not work and eventually time out. My wife and I both tried doing it from my account for over 2 hours. Lol... She is a trooper. Still didnt get one.

Wish I thought about the affirm part.

I bought my 2080 TI with Affirm 2 years ago from here.  I did it today too, and scored a 3090 FTW Ultra.  I will pay it off before the first payment.  I tried every other way, but as soon as I hit Affirm, it was instant.  Order accepted.

I had all of those checkout pages saved from experience in the past and was able to get to the place order page with the green button multiple times. Paypal and CC. Didn't try affirm though since that does a credit pull. Makes sense why that went through I guess. Most probably weren't trying that method.
