Im in agreement. ditch the board and chip.

Here is what cha do. You go hit the store and get a board cpu and memory and a good heat sink for now. About 950 bucks(asus/evga/gigabyte - 4930k - 2133 ram or higher - a nice 60 to 80 dollar heatsink or just use you water cooling loop.(that's what i do. I dont even turn the chiller on anymore unless im doing something serious)  or so. You can get it for testing and if you decide to keep it...Then all is good.
You will gain more from that over all than 3 780's. You can always go grab another one of those later. If you can't do that. then still get the new setup. anything sandy or higher is gonna do better than x58 unless you running ln2 and that is still a leap.

Ok John, Since I've been out of the Game for Quite a while now, I would Like Your Personal Opinion on What YOU would Buy if You were going to build another High-End/Cost is No Object/Kick-A** Up-to-Date Benching Rig.

In Other Words, What Current MB/CPU/RAM/etc.... would you consider to be a "Must Have" and STILL be able to use it 24/7! (I don't feel the need to pour LN2 into some pots every few hours to accomplish that).

I'm asking Your Advice because I Don't Really Know What New Products Actually Work Like They are Supposed to, and apparently I'm not the Only One!

Here's my opinion... Since you like to run vantage, 3dm11, and 3dmark, then x79 is only answer.

Get evga x79 dark or Asus riv black ed, a 4930k, and 16 gb of quad channel mem 4g sticks. I like gskill, but Samsung mem is best of you can find it. Mem isn't all that important anyway.

I'd go with the dark over the asus. That's all you need. Mobo, cpu, and ram.

On another note, that vbios must be hosed, because power slider is needed to support the oc's. You should should see big results.

No worries Hallowen, I haven't been pouring Ln2 for a while now myself. And my phase change is sitting right next to my 3770k/Titan/Teem Xtreme/ work horse setup now.
Asus Ramapage black edition or EVGA X79 Dark
4960k or a 4930k
On memory go with 4 4GB's or 4 8GB's for quad channel operation.
Something like some g-skills or dominators or or vengence or even teem extreem 2666's
And a new main part of this setup and a mush have. SSD's! And now they have the 1TB drives out. My biggest drive is a 512 though.
I know im still running ocz, but most run other drives like samsung evo series. And there a few to choose from. at least a nice 250 GB drive or a few of them, possibly raid....

Is a good starting place... Im a bit rusty myself and am looking at parts as well.
Already ran a 3930k and a 4930k setup...So not sure about my next one. And i did some good numbers on just chilled water and card or cards on air. I may get a water block for my Titan.
Im sure there are others who have the latest parts down to a science now and ill be looking at those ideas as well. LOL.
Just throwing out some ideas here...:)

Edit:
Well Q basically answered the same exact thing. hahaha.
I would still run a 4930k though. lol

Hallo, I checked with my mate and you have to use precision and enable kboost. It sets the cards at the clocks you want, and disables the boost thingy. Otherwise your cards with throttle back. Oh and then move that slider all the way to max.

Re:Get It Colder II 2014/01/25 18:51:46 (permalink)
Ok Guys, Judging from Your Comments, These are the Items I should get at the Very Least to Start with:
1) EVGA X79 Dark
2) 4930K (Why Not a 4960K?)
3) 2 x 1TB SSD's (RAID 0)
4) 4 4GB or 8 4GB RAM ( I already Have 6 4GB RAM - Corsair Dominator GT 2000C9 - or Should I go with Faster RAM?)

Also, Since the GTX 780 Classifieds are Limited to only 3-Way SLI without special "Scripts" and MUST use only 320.49 and Older Drivers to enable 4-Way SLI, AND the Fact That Most of the Top Scores in Futuremark are produced with 2 x TITAN's in SLI, Wouldn't it be better to Sell My three GTX 780 Classifieds and Purchase Two TITAN's (To Start With) Instead? (Doesn't Matter Whether I get 2, 3, or 4......They WILL be on Water Cooling!)

If I DO End up (Eventually) with 4 x TITAN's (Which I ASSUME will work in 4-Way SLI on an EVGA X79 Dark), My Thermaltake Toughpower 1200W Isn't Going to Cut It, so Which PSU (Possibly TWO) would You Recommend? Possibly Two EVGA 1500W Units?

BTW:
I Just Noticed on The EVGA Product Page I can't just go out and Buy More than TWO TITAN's per Household, or Even FOUR 780Ti KSE's per Household without being "Auto-Notified" First, So I guess the Best "Plan of Attack" at the Moment is to Purchase an X79 Dark and an INTEL 4960K using My Existing Corsair Ram and Also Unfortunately have to" Make Do" with the Three GTX 780 Classifieds I have to Start with!

Man, I'll Tell You What, Even When You WANT to Spend the Money on these Expensive EVGA Products You Need (No 1500W PSU's available Either ATM), It takes an Act of GOD to Find what You Need!

4960 waste of $. 4930 clocks same. It's a luck of the draw with cpu anyway. Would be a shame to buy $1000 cpu to see it only clock 4.4ghz. Ivy and Sandy before it aren't like the old chips. They don't respond to cold nearly as well. Air and regular water cooling are basically the same.

I'd test the ram you have and see if it works. Just get the board and the cpu, then go from there. You'll find out soon enough what else you may need. No need to possibly waste money up front.

Sounds good, Dark and a 4930k is the direction I am going.  Also, this is the RAM I was going to go with, and I am going for a OC that is 24/7 Stable.

Talk to Nateman for a VRM block for your Dark, when you clock them, they get pretty hot otherwise.

Decisions, Decisions........What to Do, What to Do........

I'm Sure Everybody Knows I've been Building My Rigs Over the Years Strictly for Benching and Reaching Out for Every Point I can Get with Mainly EVGA Motherboards/Graphics Cards and other EVGA Products.

But Honestly, While I Do Know What CPU/Memory I want to use, I Just Can't seem to make up My Mind on whether an EVGA X79 Dark/4930K would get Higher Performance/Benching Scores than an ASUS RIVE/RIV BE/4930K!

Lately I Keep Going Over/Looking/Analyzing the Futuremark Scores/Statistics, and Even though there are More of EVGA Graphics Cards used for High Scores in the Hall of Fame, They are Also being used with ASUS RIVE/ RIV BE Motherboards!, And Please Don't Hate Me for Saying So because I have ALWAYS Used EVGA MB's and Graphics Products since 2008!

Maybe I Need to do some more Research Before I Actually have to Commit Myself to an Insane Asylum!

Well the RIV BE is overall probably the better board. The real question would be can you afford to spend that much extra on it. You could get the dark and one of Nate's blocks for probably about the same price. I have no idea what his prices are only speculating. I would say your overclocking potential and benching scores would be more luck of the draw with your CPU than which top of the line mobo you chose.

Asus Rampage Extreme has the reputation, for many years, for being the extreme overclocker's board.  Evga broke into that realm with the 680 if you remember, then gained ground with our beloved Classified 759.  Seems like everyone had a classy, but then R&D team left Evga, so everyone went back to Asus.  I've had a number of Asus boards in between.

Only a few extreme folks use the Dark, but not because Asus is better.  There were some BIOS issues with the Dark to begin with, which didn't do anything for evga's rep.  They are pretty much ironed out now.  And truthfully, those were issues that a guy like you or I could care less about.

The RIVE is hit or miss.  A high % of the boards are RMA'd. If you get a good sample, you're happy.  Otherwise....  The Black Edition is too expensive and everyone already has a RIVE.  Sham and Andre left Asus.  Vince bleeds Evga, so we'll get good support there.

I already know the Dark is just as good as the Asus counterpart.  The data and users on my team already verified.  And TBH the mobo isn't going to be all that important in the hierarchy of critical components.  It ain't gonna make a bad chip, good, or a good chip better.

But it can make a good or great chip worse!. LOL
I had the rampage extreme (3) of them and they were all pretty much junk. I was waiting on my 4th replacement and decided to just grab a sabertooth till the next batch of boards came in. And low and behold 5.2 ghz with out even trying while i was struggling for 4.8 ghz on 3 different boards. (4930k) This was a few months back so I sold everything and just ran my 3770k....

So now i wonder if i'm getting a good board or a good chip or neither.....

OK Guys, I Have Made up My Mind on What to Buy, And This is the ONLY Way I Will Know For Sure WHAT Will Work the Best For Me by using the "Trial and Error" Method!

Here is What I have Just Purchased From Newegg in an All Out "Testing" Effort to Decide What New Components My New Overclocking/Benching Rig will use along with My Existing Three EVGA 780 Classifieds as a "Starting Point"!

BTW: ALL Testing will be done on AIR COOLING ONLY (CPU/GPU/MB) to make the "Playing Field" Even!

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!...................

RIVE BE has a Core3D audio chip, which is a step up from ours unfortunately, however it was designed later.  But for a pure benching rig I do not see where this would make any difference.  My vote between the 2 would be the Dark for benching.  The only other board I can really see competing here would be the AE11, and a lot of its features would be largely wasted on a bench only board, however 4 slots at 16x due to 2 PLX chips may squeak a few more points out, however, most I have heard didn't get quite the overclock on the CPU, so overall scoring may be a push.

Very nice hallowen!!!! That will be very interesting to see the results of. What cooler are you going with?

@ John, I had the same experience with my sabertooth coming from an x79 classified, clocked much better and much more stably.
