Hopeful of acquiring a EVGA 3070 or 3070ti at some point soon, although I've been trying for a 70 since feb, so I'm not holding my breath.

But I just began thinking about my current setup and what people were recommending. My current setup is a 1080p 200hz 21:9 monitor, and I'm using a 1650super, Ryzen 5600x. I imagine I'd be able to max most settings at 1080 for this setup with either of the 3070 cards. So 1440 may be a good bet, but would the 70/70ti be capable of handling 1440 at 21:9? Any recommendations for a curved 1440 21:9 monitors too?

Games currently played are Overwatch, Horizon Zero Dawn, CS:GO, Valorant, DOOM Eternal. Hoping to add more taxing games as I get a better card as well.

Both will be able to get good FPS at 1440p (60-144) and from what I've heard 1440p is more crisp. It's also a better long term investment, as 1080p won't be the standard for much longer, and as gpus get faster and beefier you'll want to have the monitor resolution and fps headroom to get the most value out of every dollar.

Thank you Very Much, thats helpful! That does seem to track well on all fronts. I'm not used to a GPU powerful enough to push my setup, the 1650 being a great little card, but nothing amazing. I'll begin researching monitors now, hopefully I don't have to sell limbs or children to get a GPU and a monitor lol!

A 3070 will push a decent framerate on a curved monitor, been debating picking up one myself.

I have a couple budget monitors on there, but I think the Gigabyte is my current favorite for performance/price. Any thoughts?

I'd also recommend 1440p for future proofing purposes.

Depends on the games, and your play style. I'd go with 144hz 1440p monitor with either card. Even a 75hz panel would be decent since that 3070 won't go much higher on some games. If FPS is the most important thing, grab a fast 1080p panel. Research the games 1st. The 3070 ti is supposed be right between the 3070, and 3080 if the leaks are right. That makes it even better for 1440p gaming. You can always turn down the settings, but that kind of defeats the purpose of a higher resolution monitor.

From most 30 series comparison's I've watched over the last few months, you are more likely to be CPU bound in frame rates at 1080p than you are at 1440p. You are better off just making 1440p your default and sliding graphic levels down if needed if you are not reaching your desired performance level.

Besides horizon dawn in all other games you would prefer higher fps to better graphics.  a 3070 should be enough to saturate 1440p on a high FPS :)

I went with S3220DGF due to straightforward looks and non-aggressive curve. Generally a fair deal. Wouldn't go over 32" in my opinion if you do anything except gaming, especially productivity work due to bigger pixel pitch, at 32" it's already starting to show. I would choose probably a 27" 1440p if I did not already have a pair of U2415 with almost the same pixels pitch, so don't have scaling changes when switching from one monitor to another. If you decide on this model, just make sure to pick up rev.4+ to able to use HDMI with consoles at 120Hz. I don't have one, but you never know. Dell Display manager also being very nice for productivity and simplifies tinkering with the controls. The only real remark I have about is less clear text than on a IPS panel and dark trails in high pace - high contrast games. Luckily not playing such titles

Yeah its still a beast of a card. Gaming at 1080p would probably be a waste of potential, especially on any game that was released in the last 5 years.

Thanks for all the feedback! Horizon is one of my favorites and was hoping to play it at 1440- and I was able to pick up a 3070 last night! I looked up some performance specs and it did seem feasible in 1440p! Obviously won't be hitting 200fps, but my primary concern is remaining above 60fps as thats when I really start to notice problems.

My current 1650super on 1080p is capable of playing Horizon in an okay manner with medium settings. However, in playing competitive Overwatch i've found that the FPS may have an impact (max settings, vysnc off, 1080p). Once I get my 3070 in, I'll do some testing of all my games on my current 32" 1080p ultrawide monitor. Its a 200hz refresh rate as well - so should be a solid way to see how much I like it.

That all said - I think the 34" Gigabyte monitor is still my frontrunner for choices. My minimum is a 32" - and I am aware of the issues with pixel view. But I already deal with that and have no issues on my 1080p 32". I think it'd be just right for me honestly. My console stays with my 4k LG TV though, so no worries on that front either!

If anyone is interested, I'll come back and report my findings of the 3070 in my games on my current setup, and then the 1440 monitor when I get it.

A lot of games can do 1440p on a 3070, but it also depends on what frames you want

So, I'm running my setup on a corner desk that has a perfect curvature for larger monitors, and was just thinking I could probably wall mount my current 1080p ultrawide overtop of the new 1440p when it arrives! I think I'd enjoy the look and versatility!

Anyone tried a setup like this? Never tried a vertical dual screen setup - should I expect some issues with the different resolutions on each monitor?

Seen some reviews mentioning the issue, but not sure if this is due to specific card / cable / drivers / revision etc. or the fact that it's not really gsync certified, so probably some edge cases could occur. Personally, didn't had any issues so far, but not using it to it's full potential yet. Will be paired soon with a 3070ti, I hope  and will report back if any issues occur.

I would suggest throwing in the Samsung G7 27" into the mix as another option for a monitor, I've seen it on sale on a couple of places and the form factor and looks are up there.

Both are overkill for 1080P really - they can EASILY go 1440p. I daresay 4k even in some games as long as you're not expecting 144hz or so.

Should always be using 1080P for higher FPS unless it's a game that will run 200+ regardless.

1080p seems like a 'waste' on ~3070, even 3060 ti should be able to handle 1440p. I'm upgrading to 3xxx series from 1070 to improve 2160p performance in games like Arma 3, ED:Odyssey, Dishonored 2 etc. and I don't mind playing on high instead of ultra and no need for ultra-high framerates on a 60hz screen unless maybe the odd competitive game where gfx detail matters even less and then I just turn off v-sync and let GPU rip anyway.

1440p ultrawide should perform better than 2160p by a fair bit however keep in mind for most games more geometry+models etc. might be rendered on ultrawide over 2160p because of the ultrawide so the difference is less linear than you probably expect:
3440x1440 = 4,953,600 pixels
3840x2160 = 8,294,400 pixels

Is the performance gain from the GDDR6X memory noticeable for gaming between the 3070 and 3070 Ti? I guess I'm wondering if it would be better for 1440p and up gaming if the 3070 Ti had 10GB GDDR6 vs. 8GB GDDR6X?

So here is a beginner question.  Right now I play with a 1060 (6GB) on a laptop hooked to a 27" 1080p/144Hz.  Assuming I can track down a new GPU and build and assuming I upgrade to a 1440p/144Mhz (or faster), at what point does the human eye simply not see a difference in frame rates.  Because my card limits me in some games, I can definitely notice between say 30fps and 60 fps and between 60fps and lets say 90fps, but is there really a noticeable difference beyond say 100-120 fps?  I am looking for anecdotal evidence obviously.
