I would be interested to see if there is a resolution to this as well.  I believe this is tied in to the same issues I'm having with my 680 FTW+ - it randomly clocks all over the place, and it crashes at random times in benchmarks or in general use.  It's crashed once on me when I was just in the BIOS.

The card I have is displaying the same behavior in two totally separate machines, and another card (480gtx) works great in both under all conditions.  I see a lot of people on several forums that are having this issue with the 6 series, and it seems like some folks are just lucky and get good cards, and others don't.  I'm going to try for an RMA and see if that helps.

edit : wow - post count got reset.  8)

I bet he just had to RMA his card, it was probably defective.

Just to circle back -

RMA'd my old card, got a new one in today - constant benchmarking has resulted in no errors or previously noted behavior.

Yay.

I just got my 680 ftw 4gb yesterday, and my card is doing the same thing I think.  I noticed it once yesterday in 3dmark, but it went away and I didn't think anything of it.  But yet again today having the same issue, i closed down precisionx and it went away, but I think that was just a coincidence of my machin being on for awhile.  I'm about to do a cold boot and see hwat happens.

there you go, same (Edited out for foul language) bug.  This is infuriating.   Obviously closing precisionx didn't make any difference right after taking this screenshot.  It was just a coincidence last time.

thanks for the reminder.

When is a real evga employee going to chime in on this issue. The tech support guy on the phone was aware of the issue, im curious as to the reason it goes away after awhile more than the actual cause. I hate to have bad feelings towards evga but its hard not to recently.
They should really do free cross shipping in the first 30 days. If my replacement card has this same issue im going to flip out.

Anyway we shouldn't have to play the lottery when we buy a card. I'll be at my girlfriends decompressing until Sunday. Catch you guys then. Maybe we can go have a 15 fps bf3 squad dm together.

Is this only affecting ftw cards? I might just return to newegg and buy a classified.

I've been searching online and can't find any other cards having this issue.  Seems limited to FTW cards :/

If you get the new EVGA precision, and activate the "K-boost" feature, it solves this problem!!!

yeah 3.04 is the version with K Boost, its in the "Adjust Voltage" section. You will need to reboot after turning the k boost on.

Yeah pretty much i think its an issue with the voltage regulators on the card ( or just a bad bios flash ). The only true resolution would be to RMA the card, and call it a day.

EVGA has awesome customer service, and are definitely willing to help out! This is my #1 reason why i still continue to buy from them!

Also, when i called and talked with one of the techs he was awesome to deal with and set it up so that it was free cross shipping. ( I did have to put up a credit card, but that was only a technicality ;) )

This issue is a bit different than the simple down clocking. Not only does it down clock but the voltage also spikes making my card run rather hot.

If your card is doing what you've seen in my screen shots id highly recommend RMA'ing you card.

i was going to RMA my card to EVGA, but where i bought it from has Classifieds back in stock for $10 more.  Just going to return and buy a classy, they don't have this issue, so I will have no worries.

wait a minute, no backplate with the classy?!?!?! (Edited out for foul language)

well my 580 classified is here from the RMA replacement of my 580 SC, happy with that for sure.  Probably pick up a backplate for it.

I went ahead and ordered a 680 classified, and shipping my 680 ftw back to newegg tomorrow.

Good luck with the FTW cards, I love mine except the issue here, and I'm going to avoid it all together by going classy :-D  Now to order that pesky backplate it doesn't come with.

Thanks man, dealing with evga support now have dealt with them before and they were flawless just a little bit nervous that these issues seem to be a reacuring issue with this particular model I am hoping they have a firmware fix for this card.

Has anyone figured out if it is the card or the software? I am on my second card and it has the same exact problem, so I find it hard to believe its the card, it has to be some software interference. The odds of several people getting cards in a row with the same problem is pretty small unless a substantial portion of these cards are damaged, but all reviews are positive on reseller sites.

It's the card.

The box says not to return the card to the store and contact the manufacturer instead (which I don't really understand). The place I got it from has a 14 day return/exchange policy like most places. They said they'll test it and exchange it if it's defective.
I just hope they have one left to give me. With the luck I've had with these cards so far I highly doubt it.

my first 2x680 FTW cards in sli surround and the second card down clocks it self during gaming to 340MHZ and other programs! the screen will stutter for a couple seconds then it clocks it self back to normal!! and also there is this weird high frequency noise that it makes ?!? the bad part is i have my system fully water cooled  which i just recently finished! if it is the card which looks like it is i will have to drain my system take it out , install back the original fan ect.. ship it then wait! i wish there was a solution for this looks like i have to contact EVGA 2morrow!

Contacted EVGA this morning and they were cool, filled out a RMA but i have to wait till after the holidays, the guy seemed like this problem was familiar to him, he did mention there is no firmware or bios update for these cards yet! which probably will fix it, i also mentioned the high frequency noise it makes , he said it can be caused by many things and not just this problem, i wish someone will figure out why these cards have this behavior probably will help out a lot for many users. i spent over $1000 on these cards and will buy another , EVGA support is awesome!

OK, Just an update! i finally got my RMA card in today after a long time of waiting, i send the card( gtx-680ftw 4GB ) right before Christmas and had to wait till jan/3 for them to even take my package and begin the RMA, so they replaced the card that had the core and mem clock issues, and now everything is A-OK! finally loving these cards, the only thing that i disliked was i send in a new card and they replaced it with a refurbish one! you know a brown box and small signs of use is visible but since im water cooling it will not show anything. both cards have identical clocks now on mem and core, and i overclocked these cards to 1267 core, 3501 mem, i know they can do 1306core though but for now they are stable on these clocks , so basically i gave 500mhz one the memory and 80ghz on the core , my temps never go over 45c, running 6000x1080 res sli surrond. with 3 monitors
