I don't see this card coming in at $999. The performance difference between the X and the 980 is far greater than it was between the 780 and the OG Titan.

Even if it is $999 980 SLI smokes it for being so close in cost.. 2x 980's would be probably $100-150 more depending on the models you get. Now granted you're not getting the 12GB of vram or the higher 384-bit bus.

I'm most interested in the vram. 4gb is not enough.

*Speculation*Depending on what AMD does if their 390x or whatever it is comes in under $1k which it probably will I think nvidia will answer with the 980 TI that has 6-8gb of vram to counter it. 4GB of VRAM is totally fine...despite all the outcry about the 970 had the news never got out the masses wouldn't have gone crazy because none of them would have ever hit that performance drop when they got close to 4GB.

Titan is great for people like me that don't bother with SLI.... since none of the RTS games i play support SLI, and if they do it runs worse with it enabled, than disabled. So i need the fastest single card i can get.

A "for sure" upgrade for me. Coming from the GTX 690, I'll finally be able to play AC: Unity at 3x1080p. And should hold me over until Intel Skylake comes out. SLI scaling looks promising too. I've seen a launch date of March 17th (Tuesday). Although, I'm guessing "launch" doesn't mean "for sale date." But it can't be much longer after that, right?

Depends on which company. Some companies launch = for sale. AMD on the other hand launch = we'll have small inventory 3 months from now. I'd plan on it hitting shelves +1month after the launch. Got to have time for reviewers to get their hands on it to build buzz.

khatru311 $999 confirmed? http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/leak-claims-nvidias-titan-x-will-be-as-quick-as-the-titan-z-at-a-third-of-the-price/ Would make sense, since the 1349 was a rumor and got everyone worked up and crying. Plans are subject to change, for all we know it was lowered and nVidia doesn't have to explain what happened. I think people wrongly attribute change of plans to incorrect rumors, that solder rumor of Broadwell turned out to be true in the sense that it wasn't going to come to desktop originally; mobile parts are embedded. Still, this isn't 2013 where AMD wasn't expected to be on the map for almost a year, I don't think $999 for another Titan will remain. For the next three months, nVidia can once again milk the impatient until the AMD competitor comes along, then they will upset the impatient calling themselves 'victims of competition' when a equivalent comes along at a lower price to combat AMD. How many are using their loyalty to nVidia to disregard that 390X is coming to convince themselves that Titan-X is a good deal? That being said, I read a speculative theory that this summer's 390X will be a paper launch and the card won't be available until this fall, which could bear credit to nVidia charging $999+ for Titan-X.

Either way, with that, you won't change their minds at any cost. It will only justify the rest of the people buying at a lower price. I could bet a thousand times, the parent companies have changed things with knowledge before the were released. That doesn't stop people from complaining about something that was never true either. It's too easy for people to make a rumor, get everyone worked up, and then watch threads like this where everyone screams about something that is only a rumor. If that rumor effects the prive, it is a good thing, but if it comes out at 1349, it isn't going to stop people from buying it, it will only encourage a few to cry that it's too much. If it is too much, don't buy it, period.

That is the exact same boat I am in. I have 2 SLI Original Titans on Waterblocks and they have been great. However, I also am gaming at 4k now and they struggle. So even though the "leaked" benchmarks indicate an pretty massive increase in performance over my original Titans, I am still confident that these new Titan's will finally be able to max out current games at 4k/60fps (of course in SLI).

Stephenk291 Even if it is $999 980 SLI smokes it for being so close in cost.. 2x 980's would be probably $100-150 more depending on the models you get. Now granted you're not getting the 12GB of vram or the higher 384-bit bus.
Until you start going to crazy insane resolutions, or you need to do 3d modeling, uving and texturing then the 980's fall flat on their face again. Glad my Titan Signature kills everything I throw at it at 1920x1080 with the DSR as far as it will go and all eye candy cranked up to the max, not to mention no crashing while I do any 3d modeling.-.- Love my logical processing cores you kind of forgot to mention those and that's the big selling point of the Titan any of them... I am going to laugh when many on these forums panic to sell their GTX 980's, go rushing and buy a TitanX then be scrambling to sell it for the GTX 980 TI that will be on a smaller die, probably have around 6-8gb of vram higher clocks than the TitanX because it will not have its logical processing cores that all Titans have that allow lower heat/power consumption and higher frequencies... But that wont happen until AMD makes its move and actually comes out with something amazing that warrants NVidia to come out with a product like that. Have to wait and see... But yup let the rat race begin, I will be sitting back munching on my popcorn. Make the commander proud! @Lephron you seem to be forgetting the real market target of the Titan, its people like me that work/play from home. That needs the speed of a Geforce, but the backbone of a workstation card, as well as game developers from Indy to AAA that are doing actual complex 3d work. They will continue to charge 999 why? Because there are people like me, like the game industry, even the guys doing cad work that will drop the cash on a Titan instead of a 3-7k Quadro/Tesla gpu due to cost and or it does not work with out workflow... even though I am not insane like most... I wait until the gpu is about the average price used as its gaming counter part normally 400-500 usd but that does not happen until EOL or close to EOL. You will not see a Titan go for much under 1k for a long long time... The whole point of stripping the logical processing cores out of the 580/680/780/980 Geforce was to try and get people like me, those in the game industry, those that do cad or any 3d work to buy a quadro/Tesla cards remember. The actual true consumer that the Titan was originally aimed at.

not in canada, $1400 shipped for sli, but I just bought 980 sli, should be a good upgrade from my 680 sli. the titan will probably cost $1350 in canada.
