GTX 980 power cables

I apologize in advance for this beginner question.
 
I'm installing an EVGA GTX 980 into a new PC. This card has both 6-pin and 8-pin power connectors. The power supply I'm using (Corsair RM650i) comes with two PCIE cables, each with 6-pin and 6+2 connectors.
 
Question: Can I use one cable for both connectors, or should I use two separate cables?

    Best to use Two Separate PCIe Power Cables for your Graphics Card.
    Here are my GTX 980 Hydro Copper Graphics Cards.

    For that card one cable will do just fine.

    That's some setup @bcavnaugh. I'm curious, what PSU are you using that gives you 8 ports just for graphics?

    I used 2 Power Supplies the SuperNOVA 1600 G2 & and SuperNOVA 1300 G2


     
    View System Now using SuperNOVA 1300 G2 80 Plus Gold & SuperNOVA 1000 G3 80 Plus Gold with only 2 Graphics Cards.
