Hey All

First time trying to overclock a gfx, so don't really have anything to comparer it to, and a bit confused about a few things

My card is a 970 SC 1972

Stock the readings from precision X was
GPU Clock 1328 (how and why ? the specs sais 1279 MHz Boost Clock)
Mem Clock 3505 (Guessing this should be multiplied with 2 giving 7010)

Haven't completed testing, but it completes Heaven Benchmark, and OCCT GPU (with error testing, only a 10min run) without problems

Power Target 110%
GPU Temp Target 91'c
GPU Clock Offset +175Mhz
MEM Clock Offset +500Mhz

Giving Precision X readings
GPU Clock 1503Mhz
MEM Clock 4001 (8002)

Is this good ? when reading about others overclock, i read alot of people saying they put like 125mhz on GPU Clock, yet they still report their GPU Clock at around 1500 ? how are you surpose to calulate it ? am i reading it wrong ?
also just startet a real game, instead of a bench, and could see the power peaked at 115, how ? the limit is at 110? and it didn't seem to throttle

Thanks
Best Regards
Fox

The gpu clock is going to depend on your card GPU boost 2.0 standard/automatic overclock from the factory. This is an NVIDIA feature and it goes as far as it can on the stock bios without over volting. Some people's cards go higher than others, and some don't get nesrly as high. It is all based on the silicone in the die.

As for your overcloxk, as long as it is stable, it is a great overclock.

After modding the BIOS I'm able to do 1541

    Oh well

Had to bumb it down for it to Pass OCCT GPU Test without errors, or red bsod

    now its at

    Power Target 110%
    GPU Temp Target 91'c
    GPU Clock Offset +130Mhz
    MEM Clock Offset +400Mhz

    Giving Precision X readings
    GPU Clock 1458Mhz
    MEM Clock 3903 (7806)

    Everythings seems fine

30min OCCT with error checking passed,
and two diff test with Evga OC Scanner and artifact scanner passed (15min each)

Only thing im a bit worried about is when running OCCT GPU or Evga OC Scanner i see the power limit go above 110%, highest i have seen is 118%.
Won't this cause the card to throttle ? and will this have a negative effect ? compared to a lower clock which would stay below the power target ?

    Thanks for any help
    Cheers

Since you're exceeding the power target, monitor the clock speed to see if you have any throttling down because of it.  If you do you can just go with it, or you can adjust your OC down a bit until you can maintain just under the max power target.  It's up to you.

You could test both ways to see which gives you the best performance.  Personally, I would find the best stable OC which stays just under the max PT.

Did some testing as you said to see which gives best performance, even with the low throttle
The funny thing is, during testing i found out that i throttle a little on stock settings aswell

Was testing during Rise of the Tomb Raider
On stock settings it peaks at 102 Max power out of 100 which is the default, and the Core Clock moves from 1328 to 1315

With my overclock it peaks at 112 Max power out of 110, moving the clock from 1458 to 1442

the Max power spike is only for a brief second, so it seems like some power spikes during very demanding games, (heaven benchmark compared only goes to around 103% max power on my overclock)

So this something i can account for ? is it normal? seeing as i hit it even before i even did anything to the card ?

The OC seems 100% stable from everything i have thrown at it so far., and the increase is heaven is

    Stock AVG FPS 54.5
    OC    AVG FPS  60.5

    Stock Score  1372
    OC Score      1523

    Stock Lowest/highest fps 24,6/118,2
    OC Lowest/Highest fps 25,8/130,9
