So I purchased the 970 ACX and for the most part it runs like a dream, but I'm having a continuous problem with the audio. A majority of the time, upon starting a game or playing a youtube video, the audio comes out sounding horrendously garbled. For videos it tends to clear up after a moment, but for games it doesn't go away. I have to restart the computer several times before the audio works properly. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the nvidia drivers, but it didn't work. I've been looking for a driver sweeper, but none of the ones I've found seem to support nvidia audio drivers. Not to mention that most of the sweeper programs I've found seem to want to install a bunch of different programs onto my computer. Could anyone recommend a legitimate driver sweeper or is there something else amiss here?

Are you receiving your audio over HDMI or through the motherboard on-board sound? Do you have both the nvidia HD Audio & Realtek on-board sound drivers installed?

I'm getting audio over hdmi. I have Nvidia HD audio drivers and the default HD Audio Device drivers listed in my Device manager. With all the nvidia drivers disabled and only the HD Audio Device enabled I get no sound, but when I have all the nvidia drivers enabled and the HD Audio Device enabled the problem still persists.

Here is how to correct your problem... Perform a clean installation of video drivers. - Uninstall Precision X/Afterburner if installed, make sure to select "no" to saving profiles if asked. Reboot the machine.
- Download & save graphics driver 347.09 to your desktop. Run it after download is complete.
- Select custom advanced install, under custom installation options uncheck all options except the physx system software, if you have a 3D capable monitor and would like to use 3D at some point select the 3D Vision driver also, check mark perform clean install, then click next to install the driver, reboot when asked.
- Should be good to go now.

Nope, check marking clean install will take care of that for you.

It worked! Had to restart a few times to make sure it wasn't a fluke, but it worked! Thank you so very much! But if you don't mind me asking, what was causing the problem?

Glad to hear everything is working smoothly. The nvidia hd audio driver was causing the issue.

Been having this problem as well and I will try this on my PC when I get home. Hoping this will solve the problem as well but with a minor twist. The HD audio drivers for my MOBO is not installing at I've tried it numerous times. I'm wondering if I should try to install the audio drivers first prior to reinstalling the NVIDIA driver?

Do #2 listed here. Since the HD audio drivers for your MB won't install you should try sweeping only the mb audio drivers with driver sweeper 3.2.0.

yah didn't work. I removed the realtek driver/creative driver that came w/ the mobo. Did the install then did the nvidia install making sure NOT to check the HD audio. But what do you know it installed it anyway, because now the speaker icon on the lower right corner is showing WD32HT1360 I give up

yup, i go into the device manager and the multimedia controller has the triangle with the exclamation in it. Before that it had the high definition audio with the same icon. I went into my BIOS and enable onboard sound as well. I've been emailing back and forth with gigabyte as well to resolve.

I wanted to go optical out to my home theater amplifier. But because of the NVIDIA audio, i'm having to go optical out from the TV to the home theater. I may upgrade to an actual monitor later on and if the monitor doesn't have an optical out I may be SOL. I'm just hoping it's not the MOBO. Just got it this past Friday

Right click on the multimedia controller inside device manager and select properties & tell me what the error says under general. What motherboard are you using?

Multimedia Audio controller: "The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) There are no compatible drivers for this device.
To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver." what's funny is that i see an onboard "high definition audio controller and device" at location "0" and is working properly but it's not outputting

What is the device id of the multimedia audio controller with the triangle on it? Should look like this... PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_17C2&SUBSYS_113210DE&REV_A1 To locate the device id, open device manger, right click multimedia audio controller with the triangle, select properties, select details tab, select hardware ids from the drop down menu, copy the first device id and paste it here.
