Dear,
I am interested purchasing your GTX 760 graphic card, as upgrade to the Radeon HD 6950 in my Alienware Aurora R3 computer, acquired in 2011, equipped with a 875W power supply. However, my concern is the following: the actual HD6950 is connected to the power supply via two parallel 6-pin connectors, more specifically:6  wires are coming from the power supply to the first 6-pin connector, then 6 wires are going from the first 6-pin connector to the second one, and then two wires going from the second 6-pin connector to a third small  2-pin connector. The two 6-pin connectors are inserted in the graphic card, the 2-pin connector is not used. Is my system compatible with your GTX 760, being equipped with one 6-pin and one 8-pin connectors? I unfortunately have no wiring scheme nor details about the power supply.
Thanks in advance for your response,
Guy Janssen

Welcome to the forums...yes, it will be compatible.  You would just take the 6 pin connector and the 6+2 connector from one of the cables and plug it into the card.  Simple as that.  There actually should be another cable tucked down by the power supply in case you want to run SLI.  It is also a 6 pin plus a 6+2 pin cable.  I believe the two cables are labeled as P14 and P15 if I recall correctly.  These numbers will be marked on the 6 pin connectors.  I have an R4, which is essentially the same setup, so it should be the same.

Good luck and let us know if you have any more questions.

Thanks for your reply, but i am a newby in these matters.
Do you mean i can plug the present two 6-pin and the single 2-pin connectors directly into the GTX 760? Do i need an adaptor? I have no intention for the moment to run SLI. My BIOS is still A06. Will it be compatible?

Yes, that is essentially what you would do.  Take the one 6 pin and plug into the card.  Take the other 6 pin that is connected to it and "join" the 2 pin to make an 8 pin.  If you look closely at the 2 pin, there should be little tabs that will nestled against the 6 pin.  It can be kind of awkward keeping the two connectors together, put try and plug both in together in the 8 pin connection.  Just make sure the 2 pin goes with the 6 pin that it is attached to.  Hope that makes sense.  I can take a picture later tonight when I get home to show how it would look.  Shouldn't have to use any adaptors.

Not 100% sure about the BIOS being compatible.  I have an R4 and not sure what BIOS it has, but I have never upgraded it and I have tried both 760s and 780s and had no issues with either.  You might need to update to the latest version if there is one, but just looking at Dell's website doesn't appear there is any after A06.  Might want to search online and see if anyone is running a 760 with an R3.  Otherwise, you could just try it and hope it works, but would be unfortunate if it didn't.

Hope this helps and let me know if you would like any pics about the connectors.  Happy to get some for you.
