Hy,

ok, i have seen many threads about this question and in many of those threads the GPUs are mixed up.
So i want to make clear, i am talking about  - that small one with SC logo on front of GPU.
My GPU is around 28°C and FAN is still spining at 40%. Can this be somehow tweaked?

Thanks

I am also looking for a solution. My fan speed is 42% at idle and is very loud.

what BIOS version you have? since mine is at 40% and yours is at 42%, we must have different versions or how is that possible?

Try lowering the fan speed using MSI Afterburner. If you can't set the fan speed below 40% inside afterburner then a custom vBIOS would be needed to lower the fan speed below 40%, however, the custom vBIOS may not be able to lower the RPM of the fan even if you're able to set the fan speed to 20% when running the custom vBIOS as the fan may already be spinning at it's lowest RPM at 40% speed.

When they were released a new bios was put out. The fans are DC and only two pin fans, so they can not be lowered any more. Beyond that, they would shut off.

They have now enables some 900 series cards to shut off the fans when temps are low, so maybe EVGA will take a look into this.

You could also modify your bios, but beware, that if you modify it and turn the card into a paperweight, you have to pay to repair it.

ok, i understand now as usual you explain well :)
explain this to me plz. in some topic i read that the latest vBIOS is 82.07.25.00.53, my GPU has 82.07.25.00.50. Is there any way to upgrade it?
again i heard that it is not hard to upgrade BIOS, that EVGA makes "easy to install vBIOS". But i havent found any "upgrademyvBIOS.exe" file on your site :)
am i mistaken or have i missed that file?
    thanks again

Call EVGA and ask them for the latest vBIOS, EVGA then should provide you with the file you seek.

So, if my RPM remains the same (i.e. at 40% speed), reducing fan speed with custom BIOS solves nothing?

i lower my fan speed to 36% it spins slower and it is more silent. i did it with MaxwellBIOSTweaker.
i attached original and edited bios. i just lowered PER11 and PER01 from 30 to 27. it is a small step but rly worth it. I also think you dont dmg the warranty this way or am i wrong? i tested the temps. running max payne 3 at max setting (rly max) with max temp of 62°C. i also have aerocool DS case with 4 fans, so maybe that help to lower it a bit too.

p.s.: i also tried lower percentages but then the fan stopped spinning. i think 36% is the lowest or maybe 35...you test it further if you wish :) i like it at 36% ;)

Thank you bizkit45 for the solution!
Can you share the modified vbios file? Thanks!

ofc, there you go. in attachment you have both vBIOS (original and edited)
plz make sure you have same version of vBIOS and same chip as mentioned on my earlier post.
i hope you know what nflash is and how it works. If you dont know who to extract current vBIOS with it, then i dont recomend you to do the flash. should be the basics. and when you finnaly flash, you will prolly get laggy gpu, just restart the pc from start menu and you'll be fine (it might take a while for gpu to open start menu, don't panic ;) )
    edited vBIOS
    original vBIOS

p.s. : hope links provided works in case it doesen't please reply

i must write it, yet i think 99% you are safe nothing will happen.

I ended up taking the shroud and fan off the card, pulled 2 pin fan cable out, then cut it off and attached a 3 pin fan cable. Then I sent it to one of the 3 pin fan headers on my motherboard.

I can get the fan down to 25% before it stops working. At 30% it's inaudible and provides all the cooling you would need for non gaming (idle temps 25-27 degrees Celsius). The minimum the fan would go before was 40%, which was noisy and really provided nearly all the cooling you would need for full GPU usage gaming (you'd probably never go over 60 degrees Celsius).

Most overkill stock fan ever really. At 100% it sounds like a jet engine, and you would never even need to take the fan above 50% for anything
