Alright guys I just got a couple of GTX 460's. They are the EVGA SC editions. They are Identical cards.

Well I went to go install the SLI.... and guess what no SLI option in the Nvidia Control panel.

I have so far......Switched the cards around. TO make sure both cards are functioning.

I have looked in Nvidia's Control panel and I do see both cards listed.

I have tried reinstalling the drivers several times. But no luck!

My Set up is....

i5 750 @ 3.8
MSI P55-GD65 MOB
Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1600Mhz
Corsair 850HX
EVGA GTX 460 x2
WD Raptor 300GB
WD 500 Gig Black Caviar
Windows 7 64-Bit Home

Please please please can you guys help.

The only other thing I can think of is that my SLI Bridge took a dump on me.

I did have the SLI working for a couple of minuets.... but because I had ATI cards before and was getting chitty performance I did a reinstall. TO get out all the old drivers. That is when the problems started happening even worse. So it's not like I am on old Drivers or anything..... it is a complete reinstall.

Thanks!!!

Yea you need a bridge but maybe not for it to show up in Nvidia Control Panel.

    No you do not !

The bridge is only there to save bandwidth as it directly joins the card to let them communicate without going through the PCI-E bus !

Again, you do not need a bridge for SLI !

It may show SLI enabled because of two cards being used, but AFAIK the second card will be of little to no use without the SLI bridge.

Either way is SLI enabled by default. I have not used Nvidia since the new Nvidia Control Panel so not sure how that works. Won't have my 460's till thurs.

To the OP one thing you could do is try it without the bridge and see if there is a difference. Have you turned the SLI indicator on?

Well I just switched the cards around. Tried both on top and both on the bottom. I also tried both of them by themselves on the top slot and the bottom slot.

So I know both cards work.

This is crap.... I left ATI to get away from Driver problems and this is what I get!!!!

Any other thoughts.... I can tell you that with out the bridge it doesn't give me the option for SLI.

But it does give me the option for PHYSX.... so I know the SLI chips and everything on the MOB is just fine.

    URRGG So frustrating!!!

You ain't seeing SLI with bridge/without bridge and both method do work, so there is another issue at play here !

BTW you do not need an SLI capable Mobo to run 2 GPU's, using 2nd for PhysX only !

If you still have the Ati driver folder then open it up and run it.. it will come to a part (install/uninstall) hit uninstall and it will clean the driver off your system.. this is the only to uninstall them ..

Also i would do a cmos reset for the new Nvidia cards after ^^^ i once had 7900GTO Sli but ran a single card from the start but added the other later on.. i had the same kind of issue not picking up the other card for Sli and a cmos reset and quick reboot fixed that issue.

The pics I posted are hard too see but if you look closely..... you can see that both cards are listed and no SLI option is there..... Also I did a clean install. There is no ATI folder left. That is what is weird!

But I will try a CMOS reset...... BRB.

Awesome glad you got it working. Now you should run SLI without the bridge and with it and post back your numbers.

You don't need a bridge, its recommended though.  I have run SLI without a bridge before.

Also in benchmarks there isn't much of a performance boost with one on,   5-10fps extra maybe.   I'm sure it varies, though,  from game to game.

Correct !, I was only stating in my 1st post to get over the fact a broken bridge can be deducted from faults to do with SLI not working as SLI does not need it.

    Gotcha ;)

The motherboard supports SLI I'm sure?  I'm too lazy to google.  But just because it has more than 1 pci-e slot doesn't mean it supports SLI.  I had a MSI board that had 2 slots that I had tried to run SLI on before.

Yes P55's have SLI by Bios Cert or Nvidia NF200 Chip.

I ran SLI on my P45 (no offical support) with a Bios hack and Hacked Drivers but it was a lot of messing about,

lol NM look slike you got it fixed

I'll add back to my post.. not sure if this missing SLI is due to realtek drivers which has been identified by EVGA boards. The fix there was to roll back the NIC drivers. So if FANBOY's fix doesnt work give that a try

Jesus I nearly forgot about that !

The damn Realtek Drivers play havoc with many things, either use MS driver on WU or latest Realtek's !

ya **** up with realtek lol.   They are like useless chips.  And they cause more trouble than they are worth.

I had to disable mine and put a soundblaster in just the play BFBC2 without any crashes.

Anytime I ever changed cards on any mobo I had I always cleared the cmos.Sometimes your bios just gets used to a card and wont recognise a new one.

At the beginning I tough man this guy says that there is no need to put a SLI bridge to do SLI he must be fubar but I made some research and it seem to be correct :)

    Here is a link

So now this has me thinking since SLI does not require a SLI bridge. Guess it don't matter that GTX460's are not tri SLI capable and would only be a small % hit when running three GTX460's with out the bridge. So they are in fact TRI SLI capable with out the bridge right? Or is that only when you run two cards that SLI works with out the bridge? Wonder what kind of performance one would get with Three GTX460's with out a bridge? You seem to be well educated on not using SLI bridges so would this work? Would one get better performance using three cards with no bridge compared to two cards with no bridge?

Did you just upgrade drivers?  If you don't driversweep, you sometimes lose the "enable SLI" option because old nv control panel files are still in there.

Re:GTX 460 SLI Problems.... No Option to enable SLI..... 2010/07/25 10:14:03 (permalink)
well guys I found out what the problem was..... I started out thinking that the board's SLI function in the p55 chip set was malfunctioning. That wasn't the case.

Because I could find anything and I mean anything else out!

But what it turned out to be was the Network Driver messing with the SLI function.

I found this problem out because.... I gave up and ordered a new Board. I ordered a EVGA SLI board. Because I thought the my MSI p55-GD65 board was all just messed up.

Anyway while waiting for this for my new board to arrive I still kept troubleshooting the Problem. What I did in desperation was to uninstall everything and do a complete Reinstall of windows 7.

When I got to installing the Drivers..... I installed the Chip set Driver and the Video drivers and that was it.

    And OMG everything worked!

So I started loading one Driver at a time..... when I got to the Network drivers..... that's when everything went bad again. So I knew that is what the problem was!

But in order to get rid of this problem EVGA's website told me to update the Network Drivers. Well when I did that.... I still had the problem. What I ended up having to do was get an older set of Network Drivers.

    Then it worked flawlessly!

So if anyone runs into this problem again.... that is how you fix it.

Tanks for your help guys! And thanks to EVGA's tech support too!
