Does the EVGA Precision XOC program have to be running for the fans to run on this card? I installed a couple of the Classified cards yesterday, and with the orientation of the cards, I didn't even notice that the fans weren't running until I started playing with the lighting on the cards today. If I start the computer without the box for starting Precision XOC with Windows checked, the fans don't seem to run until I manually start Precision XOC. The fans on my previous EVGA GTX 980 SC's ran without Precision running in the background. Also, what is the reason for the tiny little switch marked 'Master' and 'Slave' on the top edge of the card? A couple of questions more. Playing with the color control for the lighting on the cards, unless the lighting is set for white, the red 'Classified' lettering doesn't seem to be lit. Is this the way it's supposed to be? And, what is the recepticle next to the twin, 8-pin power supply cables for? Thanks for any help provided.

Hi Comrade, The fans should start up automatically but only once your card reaches about 60c (the rest of the time the fans will either IDLE at almost ZERO RPM) or about 15% (which for some fans isn't enough electricity to get them spinning up at all). Monitor once you're in-game and see if they spin up past 60-65c (if not then you may have a problem). The master and slave is for your BIOS (your card is DUAL BIOS). Master gives you a maximum power overclock of 122%. Slave allows you to increase your power slider to 130% (which on your classified is 320W) much bigger than the standard 180 watts max of a Founders Edition. On later manufacturing batches of the card; EVGA has actually renamed "slave" to "LN2 MODE". Exactly the same, just differently named buttons. It also gives you a backup BIOS in case you flash a custom BIOS or a BIOS from a different card and something goes wrong. Instead of your card becoming a useless paperweight. You just flick the switch onto the other BIOS and your card still works. Remember only difference between the two files though is the maximum power target, apart from that the two BIOS files are completely identical in every way. Nck

No, precision x doesn't have to be running. The card ships with dual vbios, "master" is the primary, "slave" is the secondary. The red classified lettering should be lit at all times. The receptacle next to the 8-pin is for evbot.
