Just got the card. Rise of the tomb raider with VXAO enabled makes the game crash every time, did not happen with 980ti ftw as i remember. But the bigger issue is the NOISE oh my god the noise coming from the graphics card. even when the fans aren't spinning, if im not on the desktop its there. whether its in an in-game menu or in game or benchmarking the buzzing ear bleeding noise is there. The fans seem to rev up and down which can be heard and also seen in GPUz with big sudden spikes and going back to normal as can be seen in the screenshot in fan speed(RPM) line. it gets to 2.0-2.1ghz Oh my god the noise.

No, even when the fans are not spinning it is buzzing. That screenshot is just to show the fans revving when set to 60% or 80%. I think its most likely coil whine.

Is it like a screeching sound during load? Does the sound go away when you're just idling on the desktop?

Its fine on desktop, no whining/buzzing. When i enter a game (overwatch, rise of the tomb raider, start EVGA scanner) or even in the menus of overwatch and rise of the tomb raider it starts buzzing/whining. If I set it to fullscreen and i tab in and out it starts as soon as i tab in, as soon as i tab out to desktop it does not whine/buzz. It is driving me in-sane.

I have my fans set to run at 100% by 70C. Doesnt hit 70C often but when it does i dont hear my fan. I dont hear a buzz either. Probably coil whine you are hearing, i have had some cards with very loud coil whine before. If your fan speed is sporadic, the newest Nvidia driver for Win 10 fixes that. But your fan looks to be stable.

Sounds like coil whine. What type of PSU are you using? Is it still the CoolerMaster 1200W? If so, what model?

it is that loud? my with ACX is loud indeed... if you have android on your cell then go to play store and install a free decibel mesure software.. then.. put that beast on load... ( play some high end game) place your cell on your desk and send us the results... it should be interesting.

No at 100% fan speed the temp is about high 60s even OCd if i remember correctly. The GPU-z log is over a long period of time when i was trying different fan settings and speeds. It gets to 80C if left at default I think, usually mid 70s at stock settings.

df2rools-snip- If I were you, I would call EVGA support immediately and troubleshoot - sometimes they are familiar with the issue and can help you solve it. Otherwise, you should RMA the card as that is definitely not normal.

The Noise is Fan noise not Coil Whine. But by weeks end you will see all kinds of users posting about how bad the Coil Whine is on the 1080 cards.

When I say "whine" I'm referring to the noise he's experiencing. We're still trying to determine where the noise is actually coming from. Here's a test. Make sure your machine is idle on the desktop, launch Precision and set the fans to 100%. Is this the noise you're referring to, or is it a different type of noise?

I don't know how to type this differently or say it in other words: The fan is NOT the noise. Even when the fans aren't spinning, as the ACX3 can do, it is buzzing. It is NOT the fan noise. I managed to take a quick video for anyone thinking its the fan thats spinning, you can clearly see the fan isnt spinning. the video doesn't do justice for the amount of noise im hearing. https://youtu.be/7rBLztIX9rQ

If your card wasn't under load in this video, then you have a defective card. If it WAS (which I don't think it was becuase your fans weren't spinning), then that's coil whine.

Record a video of the sound with a cell phone and upload the video, so we can evaluate and determine if you are indeed having coil whine or simply loud fans (because they have been at 100%).

so, if you have it set to 1990 mhz it doesn't make the noise? The noise only occurs when you raise the clock above 2ghz?

df2rools Just got the card. Don't Overclock so high or put your card under water a custom loop or an AIO Unit.
Good point. Is the whine there under normal clocks?
The Noise is Fan noise not Coil Whine. But by weeks end you will see all kinds of users posting about how bad the Coil Whine is on the 1080 cards.
Sorry, then you should have said Coil Whine as I said above it would not take long. As far as the fan revving it is a known Driver issue and NVIDIA is working it. "Oh my god the noise." you really are not that clear from where the noise if coming from. Still all in all allow your card to run a few days if you can 7x24 running heaven benchmark tool to break in your new card. Nothing more then a repeat of the Coil Whine that the last 3 Generation have had from high end NVIDIA Graphics Cards.

He's using the latest drivers Nvidia released that addressed the revving.

df2rools Here is the same position when it is in desktop. Again, fans are not spinning, and my system is 100% quiet. No noise when in desktop. https://youtu.be/luqZmvNjI9o
So in the first video, you were in a game?
In the first video I was in Rise of the tomb raider menu. It happens both in menus and in-game. Desktop is where it does not happen.
That's coil whine son.
It's the loudest thing i've heard. I rather not play than hear this. Now unfortunately, I called newegg and they informed me that they do not have these in stock, so if I return it they might give me a refund, or if they have it in stock, they'll give me a replacement. They make their decision 2-5 days after they get it. Which means im stuck with nothing. I can't order from someone else because they might replace it, and I don't want two graphics cards if they do. I'm really disappointed. Heres a bigger picture with the fans revving, i circled where it shoots up and then goes back to normal. Click to enlarge. http://imgur.com/PCLjimW

A good reason why I buy from EVGA's Website as they have Cards in Stock for the purpose of RMAs. Any Hoot Burn in your Card for a few days and the noise may go away altogether. Myself I do not hear any noise from your video https://youtu.be/luqZmvNjI9oIf your cover is installed and the computer is placed on the Floor do you still hear any noise?
