I don't know how they could help with the coil whine, searching online it seems that there is no solution.
If I need to RMA I know for sure that newegg will either refund or replace, and I rather do it through them.

Yes, the June 7th 368.39 drivers.

Any Hoot Burn in your Card for a few days and the noise may go away altogether.

Myself I do not hear any noise from your video https://youtu.be/luqZmvNjI9o
If your cover is installed and the computer is placed on the Floor do you still hear any noise?

Will letting the GPU run over the next few days actually reduce/solve the noise problem or is that a fairy tale?

Yes, thats the 2nd video which shows no noise during desktop operation. The first video is the one with noise.
putting the side door doesn't make a discernible difference, it is placed on the floor, same amount of noise.

I noticed something, if I set Power Management Mode to Adaptive instead of Prefer Maximum and alt tab from rise of the tomb raider and back in, it sometimes gets stuck at 700mhz gpu clock, and it seems to not whine there. In regular gaming mode clocks with 1600/1800 boost it does make the noise, so it seems related to load and GPU clocks.

If you upload your invoice and register the card, they would probably swap it right out for a new one - its worth a call!  They could probably send you out a new one faster than newegg

No Fairy Tale, you have about 1000 Posts where users are told to do this and some work and some do not.
You must be new to computers to not know that computers have a Burn-in Time, why do you think that Dell and HP make you wait so long to ship out a custom build. They have to Burn it in to make sure all is well with the computer.

Only use Prefer Maximum Power.

It's possible that the whine will go away in a few days, - give it a try if you are satisfied with rest of it. + Put the gpu under load. No torture, please!

Don't Overclock so high or put your card under water a custom loop or an AIO Unit.

I can oc to 2.1 with a custom fan profile set at 60% at 60 degree and the thing never gets above 67 under full load, no coil whine either this card is alot quieter than my titan it replaced...id say he has a bad card if its getting that hot with fans reving up...

Good for you, the fans revving up... issue is a Driver Issues Stated by NVIDIA and not a Card Issue.
Also the OP did not state what the Temperatures are. Each card will run different as the same as how Dice will fall (Role) to the table.

At this point I'm really disappointed in EVGA. I gave the brand multiple chances. My EVGA GTX 580 had artifacts and crashing which was well documented in these forums, support didnt want to help me, and I never got the rebate that I filled correctly.

The GTX 980 ti FTW I bought a few months ago I didn't get the division code that was promised, again I contacted support and they did not help.

I told myself I wouldn't buy another EVGA, but this was in stock on newegg, it was cheap and I went for it, dumb mistake.

3 cards 3 bad experiences, I've had 2 other brands and had zero problems with them.

hmm now I am a little worried about even opening mine. I really do not have good luck with EVGA. even tried a 750 ti from them and the damn thing would drop to desktop idle speeds at times in some games. sent it back and got a Zotac 750 ti that works perfect.

Sorry you feel this way and the bad luck..  Myself, I have never had an issue with EVGA's support.  As a matter of fact, the few times I've had to use EVGA support to troubleshoot or start an RMA process, it was very smooth and went through quickly.  One of the reasons I am using EVGA to this day and will continue with any future products ( DG-8x Series Gaming case, yes please.. :).   EVGA's support is top-notch in my book.  The best I've dealt with.. period.

Anywho, do as the others have said.. let the card have a little break-in period.  If the issue persists after a period of time still, then consider contacting EVGA support and start the process with them.  I definitely would not recommend going through Newegg.com RMA process.  You'll be without a card and a replacement for a longer period of time.  Trust.   Something to think about.. Coil whine is, hate to say it, not really seen as a issue worth RMA'ing a card to most GPU manufacturers and some will not even consider fufilling an RMA due to coil whine.. Extreme cases may be different of coarse.  :)

Good luck bud!

Why doesn't evga just use decent capacitors? They've had this issue for a while now, I remember having the issue with my 200 series card.

You mean inductor.  The inductors are whining.

The the card uses tantalum capacitors.  Tantalum capacitors don't have electrolyte, don't have vents, don't fail in the same way that electrolytic capacitors fail, and do not hiss.  "Capacitor squeal" does not apply to this product.

The answer to your question must be something similar to:
The profit made by selling the product with cheaper inductors must apparently outweigh the cost of replacing a larger percentage of video cards with unacceptably loud inductors.  If EVGA's replacement rate due to loud inductors was too great that it affected their profits, they would make necessary changes.  Apparently they haven't felt the need to make necessary changes.

Inductors

^^ This.. The coil inductors are where the coil whine is coming from.  It's like a hyper-fast resonance in the coil, err inductor, causing the 'whine'.  Saw a video a long while back with someone inducing different GPU loads and creating a song of sorts with the coil whine.  Almost reminded me of the Formula-1 engine songs.  lol

It's more like "Alpha" testing.

But this is a NV driver problem and not a EVGA Problem!!!

When i look the youtube videos, I would say maybe the ball bearing is damaged, or the motor is damaged. Why? Look at the fan blades they wobble.
And this could be the high peeks in the monitoring graph. The motor wants to start but has not enough power. So increase the voltage and this is the noise your hear.

How could it be damaged? Maybe when you installed it in your system.

Are you maintaining the desired FPS when the card's speed drops, with no drops in FPS while the card slows down? if so, then the card is doing its job. What resolution are you at?

The wobble is normal.  All EVGA ACX video cards with "dB Noise Inverter" fans do this when they are "off".  The wobble does not create an audible sound.

well I take back what I said about having no problems. two different times the gpu has dropped down to very low speeds in Rise of Tomb Raider for no reason. one time was after I alt tabbed but another was on a fresh launch of the game and it never went to full clocks. great job EVGA...

Are you maintaining the desired FPS when these cards' speed drops, with no drops in FPS while the cards slow down (assuming you have SLI)? if so, then the cards are doing their jobs.

I am not some noob but I guess I should have been more clear. the clocks drop very low for no reason at all. the memory alone drops to just 810 mhz and of course framerates plummet down to low teens. I have to restart the game for the card to act right. so far this problem has only occurred in that one game but I did see another person having similar issues on guru3d.

NO need to be a tool. A simple question deserves a simple answer. Remove the pole sir.

Ok... clearly its the drivers. You'll have to wait till Nvidia does some fixing. Have a good day... sir.

perhaps you should read a little closer before commenting next time. I was not being a damn tool and simply was saying  that I should have been more clear about the performance drop so as not to look like a noob.

Okay, I've left it overnight and slept in a different room. It's still noisy as all hell.

And to the guy posting about tomb raider clocks, I had the same experience with low clocks. It either goes to 700mhz or gets completely stuck at 1607 which is the normal clocks with 0 boost and just stays there no matter what, and also enabling the very last AO option, VXAO, just crashes the game. but this isn't really my concern, its the noise that is.

I gave it my best and tried the only "solution" that the forum/thread came up with. Three bad experiences with EVGA. I don't care anymore if I return it and get an offer of $500 for an evga gtx 1080, im done. Going to box and ship it back in a few hours. Won't recommend it to anyone in our shop, and most certainly wont recommend EVGA to my friends.
