I've been playing around with my new 1070 and noticed, while doing some Deus Ex: Mankind Divided benchmarks, using Afterburner OSD, I saw my fan speed looked very low compared to the temperature. Everything is running at default. The bench marks showed the card running around 60C and the fan was barely running at 20 RPM. I've since downloaded Precision and when I clicked on Tools/Fan I see the baseline for both settings is 40 RPM. What speed should my fan be running at when under load?

The fans will kick on at a very low RPM around 60-65º C. It sounds like your card is running very cool! Based on the those temps I wouldn't be concerned about the low RPM, it is simply done to keep the GPU running cool.

If you would like, you can use Precision XOC to set a custom fan curve which is more aggressive. But it is not necessary.

If you have a moment, please rate my service. We appreciate the feedback!

I recommend you use PrecisionXOC with FTW2 cards (or any other iCX card). MSI Afterburner does not support asynchronous fans or more than 1 temperature sensor, so you can have your VRMs or memory bank 3 (which is closest to the VRMs) at high temperature but the power fan will not work because Afterburner will not tell it to.

That 60 C was just a rough guess. I went back and ran some new benchmarks using Precision XOC and enabled OSD. Deus Ex came in at 69C/GPU 2 61C/Fan Speed 25%; Heaven at 68C/GPU 2 62C/Fan Speed 26%; and Valley at 70C/GPU 2 63C/Fan Speed 28%. Fan Speed scaling seems to working fine but it still seems to me it should be running a little faster. I'm going to play around with custom fan curve and see if I can get those temps down a bit.

Thanks for the heads up on Precision. It's been a long time since I've used Precision and it has come a long way...I'm liking it so far.

Alright then. I went back and ran the three benchmarks I listed above and this time I enabled automatic fan control and used the default settings. Below are some screenshots showing the results with auto fan control off and on. What a difference using auto made. It knocked off at least 15C on all the benchmarks. I think EVGA needs to do some work on improving the default fan control software.
