Ok i killed my warranty and took off the heatsink.
I have the 1060 in a node 202 case that's built  for folding and to have a easily portable pc.
Worked out rather well except  when folding I had to run the fan on the gpu at around 90%,
all the time. That is too loud!  I have a corsair h55 ordered a NZXT Kraken G12  I figure I'll
mod/cut the bracket to fit the card and use case fan to chill the memory.
Today thought i'd get a little ahead on mod and took off the heatsink.  Now i've  used water blocks,
in the past, on gpu's but  this thing is so scratched up I'm kinda shocked.  All I have for taking a picture
is my phone so not sure if you can see

It is very pitted you can actually feel the gashes.
Can these things even be lapped ?  lol been forever since I did that
Planning on using ARCTIC MX-4 Thermal Compound Paste will that fill in the ruts?
FYI the heatsink doesn't even touch the memory my thinking is the mem will actually run cooler

You didn't kill your warranty removing the heatsink.. not at evga! There fine even if you water cool it. Just dont physically damage the card.

No you can't lap a bare die.

Ice never seen a gpu die that ruff either.. are you sure thats totally clean and free of all thermal goop? Did you use rubbing alcohol to clean it?.. Though I'm sure the thermal compound will fill in the voids as that's what it's for.

Hmm I thought when I broke the tape on one of the screws...
Good to know.  Yup it's cleaned with rubbing alcohol and q tips.
Card runs fine would you consider rma for this?
