Do I need a special "active" adapter to use the DVI port on a display port input?  I tried my regular adapter but the monitor doesn't detect a signal and goes to sleep.  Want to be sure it's not an issue with the card before spending money on an adpater.

Currently running the HDMI and Display Port connections to 1st two monitors but wanted to connect the third to the Nvidia card instead of the MB adapter.
Video Chipset: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660
Video Card:    EVGA GTX 1660 Black Gaming (06G-P4-1160)
Video Memory:  6144 MBytes of GDDR5 SDRAM [Hynix]
Interface: DisplayPort, HDMI, DVI-D (HDMI 2.0b, DisplayPort 1.4 and Dual-Link DVI)

Yes, if you're trying to display higher than 1080p.

You'll need an adapter like this... https://www.amazon.com/Accell-B087B-007B-DisplayPort-Dual-Link-Adapter/dp/B00856WJH8

Thanks - ordered this one since the monitor is a Dell P2419H with native resolution of 1920x1080...

    Hopefully it will work

If that is the case then you may have a bad displayport on your gpu. You should have checked the displayport output on your gpu before you ordered the active adapter.

Um...he's going from DVI to DP. "Do I need a special "active" adapter to use the DVI port on a display port input?"
But yes indeed, at 1080p he should not need an active adapter to go from DVI-D to DP. If he ordered what you suggested, he ordered the wrong thing.

If that is the case then he wouldn't have bought the adapter I linked as it doesn't convert dvi to dp.

You're actually arguing that someone didn't take your bad advice and order the wrong thing? Okie dokie. It's appears in black and white, you're mistaken. Wow. Seriously, you are going that route of shifting blame? Do  the right thing and send him a PM and hopefully he can get a refund. That is the LEAST, you can do.

If I messed up I messed up, so what we all make mistakes. Now if the op ordered the adapter I linked without reading anything about it that is his fault.

He needs this, a male DVI-D to DP.
Yes we all mess up. And most of us make a minimal effort to correct them. You can't bother to make the LEAST effort to correct your mistake.  I guess I grew up in a different time.

At this point I don't think he needs an adapter at all because it sounds like his dvi port doesn't work, or the adapter he tried to use is busted. He needs to confirm that his actual dvi port works first before ordering an adapter.
