" />
Getting Started
" />
Remove the Backplate

" />
Remove the Heatsink and remove thermal paste and thermal putty. This takes quite awhile.+

" />
After it's been cleaned. Moved the thermal pads back to the heatsink.
" />
Install the block. I didn't use the fan cables so I hid them in the shroud.
" />
Install the backplate
" />
All finished.
" />
" />

The process was very easy. Cleaning up the thermal putty and paste takes some time. I'm getting much better temps. Seems to max at about 55. I used to hit 78 or 79 so that's quite an improvement. I need to get a new radiator tray for the top of my case so but for now I'm happy. I did flash the bios to the FTW Hybrid. I definitely like it and it's more stable. My only complaint is the power limit in OC only being up to 107. I believe I was at 119 when I was just on the xoc beta bios for the 3090 FTW3 Ultra. I had to get kind of ridiculous with the fans to front mount my radiator but for now, it works. I need to get longer hoses. I also highly recommend an ifixit kit. I went to best buy for one just before I did this. Made the job much easier. I beat my old timespy max score on my first run without any effort. Great kit. I think it was around 20,515 on timespy.

Hi, just curious since I ordered myself a hybrid kit too. Are there pads/paste/putty included ? Also did you have to replace the putty and pads? Thank you!

Pads and thermal paste are all pre-applied on the kit. The GPU thermal paste looked rather thin, and I had better (thermal grizzly kryonaut), so I removed it and applied my own.

I got a question, why didn't you use the fan cables and hide them in the shroud?
Also, for the 2 fans on the radiator, where do they draw power from? Are they already connected to the kit? I would assume so as PX1 would need some form of way to detect the card temp and operate them.

I didn't use them because I didn't want an ugly fan cable hanging out of the front of my gpu. Also I keep the fans for my radiator at a set rpm and I control them with my motherboard. They can draw power from the board. Also there is a fan header on the end of the gpu you could use with a fan splitter. It can detect all temps and function fine without them connected from those cables. It just shows zero rpm on fan 1. Fan 2 is the fan on the gpu. You can use them if you want and they'll show up in precision.

Also it's not a ton but when you run fans from your gpu you're taking power away from it. It's really not much I'd bet 10 or 12 watts maybe less, but if you're into overclocking it might matter. You can use them though and precision will control them if you want to.

The 2 fans for radiator can either draw power from the kit but that takes power away from the card and hence you connected to the motherboard and control it at the expense of not having a reading from PX1. I think I understand this part.
What confuses me is the fan cable from shroud is supposed to power the VRM fan on the card right? If it's not connected, how do you power that fan?

If you don't use the fan cables you do actually still use two of the plugs on the gpu. I believe it was the black and the beige one. That powers your fan, block and rgb.

These new rgb fans are rated at .65A max, so yeah about 10w at a normal speed. Not sure how much of that is rgb.

Here is an actual copy of the manual if you're using the ftw card. The rgb may have been a separate connection, I don't remember. But you do still use two connections whether you use the fan cables or not.

That sounds right. I'm going to do a loop at some point but the fans that come with the kit will do almost 2700 rpm's and are crazy loud lol. But when I'm in 3d mark or something I tend to crank them. It definitely makes a difference. Aside from annoying my roommate it doesn't bother me. Lol

The manual does not mention about any cables so the fact that there are cables are really confusing. I wish they said what they are for.

Upon further closer reading, step 7. "beige and black fan" seem to be the 2 fans on the radiator and the black middle fan between the tubes are meant to be for VRM fan?

The part where it says install the pcb you'll see a black, blue and beige connector on the pcb. The black powers the block and the beige is for the fan in the shroud.
The blue is not used. The other black one that's by itself should be the rbg. It's hard to see but the fan cables come off the block itself I think. Those are for the radiator fans if you choose to use them. That's kind of off the top of my head. Lol

Thanks so much I understand what those cables are for now. Last question. The thick flat cable that’s supposed to hang outside together with the tubes. What’s that one for? I know you are not using it. There’s nothing in the instructions that mention it as well.

Is that supposed to be some form of pass through cable?

That cable is the fan cable(s) for the radiator fans, which I chose not to use. I chose to control those with my motherboard instead of precision. Mostly because I just don't like the way it looks. You can definitely use them if you want though.

Actually here is a video. It's way longer than it needs to be but if you go to about 29 minutes, you'll see the block with its power cable and you'll see that the fan cables are attached to it.

Thank you so much! That totally clarified it for me. I can choose to tuck that in like what you did and have the fans draw power from the motherboard sys_fans pins (via Bios control and forgo X1 automatic control) since I'm going to fix the speed possibly to max or 80% for exhaust anyway.

Did you find a way to elegantly route the addressable RGB wires to the side of the card or did you not bother with that? I was confused because it looked like I would have to plug power into that cable (if it's not tucked away) and another set of wires back into the side of the card for RGB but this video totally cleared it up.

Let me know if I'm correct now please. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Can't wait for my kit to arrive, hopefully soon!

How are your temps with the Hybrid kit? I have mine installed and barely break 65C during gaming an running benchmarks at full load. But my gpu2 gets about 10c hotter during gaming though.

I'm not sure you can call it elegant haha. But it's hidden away under the plate and it's definitely fine there. I haven't noticed any temperature issues and it cools as expected.

Mine tends to max at about 65 while gaming after quite awhile. I have a ton of airflow and that may be helpful. Its definitely better. I was hitting 78 before during long gaming. When I max the fans for benchmarking it stays below 60 but it's extremely loud.

well, see many posts written should replace the thermal paste.
But what way do you select on 3090?
and paste same with factory on cooler or on 3090 chip?
