I am looking at SSD's currently for my new rig I am doing, and I am debating on getting about a 40GB SSD to install Windows on. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which would be the best SSD for me to get, I know nothing about SSD's so if someone could link me to a good product I would be very happy. I do not need a big SSD because only Windows will be installed on it, and I would like to find one at a fairly cheap price, since this rig is already breaking my bank. Thanks for all the help fellas. Extremely appreciated!

I would suggest at an mininum of getting at least 60gb. I have a 60gb and with windows 7 and updates. I've used about half of the 60 gb. If you got the 40gb, you would fill it up pretty quick. I have the OCZ Vertex 2 60gb. They have them on sale for 114.99 and with a 15 mail in rebate, it's under 100 bucks. You can't beat it. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227550

So an SSD is pretty much a HDD but a billion times faster but with a ton less space right? And can a regular HDD work together with an SSD? Like can a regular HDD be in raid 0 or raid 1 with an SSD? Or can I have for example 2 SSD's and 1 HDD working all at the same time not in any kind of raid setup? Because I fill up my HDD really quick when it comes to games and stuff lol.

A standard mechanical HDD have rotating platters that need to be read, very similar to a CD/DVD. Solid states no not have platters and are more similar to RAM. They are much faster, but due to their relative age are much smaller. Most people use them as a boot drive, with a larger mechanical drive for storage. They can still be used in any RAID your motherboard supports, be it 0, 1, 5, etc.

I have the OCZ Agility II 60GB as my main/boot drive , I have about 275MBps Read and 245MBps write, I am extremely happy with it. Don't get 32GB, you'll be having issues with it filling up in no time.

I was thinking of getting that SSD, but then I read how sata 3 speeds are even more crazy fast. Anyone have any idea how much faster sata3 is compared to sata 2? The answer depends on me getting an x58 3sli board or the p55 sli board :x

You can only see the gain in sata 3 bandwidth when you pair them in raid 0. Even then its very small compared to sata 2 in raid 0. Crucial is the only one trying to sucker people into buying technology that is not needed yet by offering sata 3 SSDs..

Hm, I suppose you make a good point. But when you add all the prices up you really aren't paying a whole lot more for a 128gb or the 256gb ssd that crucial is selling. But I noticed that the Read speed on the 128gb and 256gb crucial ssd's are a lot faster then the ocz 60gb and same with the higher spaced ssd's for ocz. But the write speed is lower :o. Soooo, I dunno, I guess if you want sata 3 with some decent space on your SSD, get the crucial ssd's? But correct me if I'm wrong and if it's not worth the price. Because I am thinking of getting 1 crucial 128gb sata3 ssd. Possibly 2 in raid 0. But dunno just yet.

Crucial is the only one trying to sucker people into buying technology that is not needed yet by offering sata 3 SSDs.. sata lll gain is seen as soon as you plug them into a sata lll port the boost from sata lll over sata ll is significant on the crucial c300's the only people in my opinion trying this is the spinner guys with 6 gb drives, they are spinners, it will not matter too much, unlike C300's I can't tell what hardware you run bud I surely got to believe you have never tried crucial drives before...here is my latest run on as ssd, when you get 4 128 gb drives pulling these numbers on sata ll then you got something to talk about, only problem is it will never happen without sata lll in the mix here is a typical run with the same 4 drives on x58 mobo with all sata ll ports

What is so special about the set up? I've never had one and am doing a new build with an SSD boot drive and normal HDD for games. Can someone link me to a set up page. Once I start the build I'm going to make a build thread so everyone can help me set it up. I know I can do it with yalls help, but not without it.

So I have a bit of an issue with my crucial 300 128gb ssd. So I have an antec twelve hundred case, and the ssd I have is 2.5 inch. I bought this for the ssd: http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16817997013 The ssd fits nice and snug into that, but the problem is sliding that mounting kit into my case in one of the front drive bays. The problem is is that the mounting kit that is slid into any of the bays, I can only have a total of 2 screws used that align with the holes provided with the bay drive and the mounting kit. So that isn't a go for me lol. Anyone have any idea what other mounting kit I could use that would work? =x Here's the drive bay specs for that case: 13 drive bays - External 3 x 5.25"; Internal 9 x 3.5" for HDD, or - External 6 x 5.25"; Internal 6 x 3.5" for HDD, or - External 9 x 5.25"; Internal 3 x 3.5" for HDD or - External 12 x 5.25 for HDD - Internal 1 x 2.5" SSD bottom mount also included I'll look into the 2.5" ssd bottom mount it provides and see if that will solve my issue. I'd like to get another 128gb ssd and that roswellg kit I showed with the link can hold 2 2.5" ssd's. So not sure if the 1 2.5" ssd bottom mount provided in the antec case will conflict with it. Ahh hmm, I found this on newegg. It seems like it might work. It appears to have the same layout for screw holes as my regular HDD. But I dunno, let me know what you guys think, thanks! :) http://www.newegg.com/Pro...=3891137&SID=194r0 Oh, even found this as well: http://www.newegg.com/Pro...x?Item=N82E16811995034
