HELO!

I will be changing out my motherboard to the 4way SLI classified board because i want to run 3x 580 FTW HC2 and my raid card and feel my E759 classified might be a tight squeeze.

Here is my questions. I read that the bios the 4way sli comes with is old and you would not support the 980x out of the box and that i would have to use like a 920/930 or something  to update the bios then i would be able to run my 980x. That is a problem for me because i dont want to buy an extra CPU just to redo my bios =).

Anyone know if this is true ? Are the current boards being sold already updated? I think i might buy mine from tiger direct because it is 379.99 and comes with a $100 mail in rebate so that would be badass for me.

If it is going to come with the old bios i might as well try and contact EVGA to see if they could update one for me and ship it to me. I would end up paying more but would save myself the headache of buying a cpu :P!

All information on this matter is  welcomed and needed!

thanks!

I could be wrong, but I am pretty sure you could flash the BIOS with your 980X. Your motherboard would see the 980X as a supported device, so it should work. (Something like, a hexa-core could still run under quad-core applications.)

I guess I was wrong haha.

The 620X bioses will show F3-F6 with the 980, and you WILL NOT be able to flash it, without a supported chip!!!

The 762 I got from Tiger direct came with a 620K BIOS, and this will NOT support the 980, Infact 620K, 620L, and 620N will not support it, all others will. I ordered a BIOS chip from E-Bay, $11, plus $5 shipping, EVGA would probably send you one for free, But I suspect you would need to regester and then create a ticket, For me, I would go the E-bay route, and possable get the chip, at or before you get the board. Here are some usefull pics.

    http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=EVGA+BIOS+E762+&_trksid=p5197.c0.m627

Note the latest BIOS is 78, but it just came out, 77 was the one I got from E-Bay
( also note there is a arrow on the clamshell, this denotes pin one there is usualy a dot on the chip to denote pin one. installing it backwards can damage the bios. and/or the board )

Flashing the bios will work if you have a supported chip, but it's a $200 indevor, if you do not,(unless you go the new bios route, or ask EVGA to send you one)  EVGA has confirmed to me that any board they sale will have a supported BIOS, but they don't have the 762 listed, I would imigine it would be difacult for them to controll what a resaler has, or shipps.  Swaping chips is a lot simpler than the pics make it out to be, It's a tool-less design, and much simpler than the old way, In my opinion easier than ISO files, and flashing BIOS.

4 way SLI classified board and that i need the newest bios 100% they might do it for me or already have them like that ;P. Isnt the one i listed the 762 :P ? Oh well. I am sure i can get them to help me out there so i can get my stuff faster + get the right bios. I live like 40 minutes away from them so i would get my products in a day and be happy =)

Cool I did not know EVGA had the board listed again, I suspect that from EVGA you will get a supported BIOS, My tiger direct did not, But that may be why I got the $100 MIR.

( Note the MIR took over two months to show up )

yeah.. Thats why i will go with EVGA even though it will be like 100 bucks more expensive + the fact that i gotta pay tax on it.

BUT! i get it in like 1 day. I get it from a better source and no headache from tigerdirect!

    basicallyevolve,

When the 980x CPU came out, EVGA flashed all available inventory with a bios version that supported the CPU.  I remember being a part of that team about a year ago.  While it is very possible that older inventory is still out there with an older bios version, it should not be.

If you have trouble with your motherboard out of the box, yes you could obtain another CPU to assist you with flashing it.  If this is not an option for you, please PM me and I will work to assist you in other ways.
