Are you running Win 7 64 bit?
If not, that is the problem.

d.burnette is correct. In fact any system 4GB and over needs a 64 bit operating system or you will not be able to access all of your memory

The issue is the extra 2GB of memory you have.  You need to remove 1 stick and leave it at 6GB for you to benefit the tripple channel feature.  Apply the sticks on memory bank 1,3,5

    Welcome to the forums sir!

Those who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way.

You still won't be able to run 8 gigs in triple-channel, though.  You want 3 or 6 DIMMs of matching memory modules... so, 3, 6, 12, 24 gigabytes of ram using 3 or 6 slots.

But yeah, you'll need 64-bit Windows to be able to use it all.

    Your very welcome.
Just fyi, if you do go to 64 bit there is no in place upgrade , you will have to do a clean install of a 64 bit OS.

A 32 bit OS only has an addressable map space of 4gb, and there are resources  like sound, video, bios, that get mapped to that space, and then what is left the ram gets mapped to. Which is why you only see around 2.54 gb available. The rest of the ram basically just goes unused.
A 64 bit OS does not have this same limitation, and you will get all your ram available.
However as others mentioned, to get the full benefit of the speed of the ram, with triple channel you will want to populate 3 banks, or 6.
