What a joke that was.

5090 supposed to appear for sale 9am EST January 30th according to NVidia notify email.

At 8:50am I was sitting on the 5090 page with the "buying options starting at $1,999" button, and the shop link from it open in another tab.

At 8:58am the shop link page on refresh changed to "secure connection failed" error, and has been like that ever since. Didn't even get so much as a look at the 5090 shop page. Not even the normal shop page is available, let alone 5090. Still the same error now, 20 minutes later.

At 9:01am the 5090 page with the "buying options starting at $1,999" button changed back to the previous "notify me" button.

F*%@# bots. Bet we'll see a heap of 5090 Founder cards appear on EBay soon, all priced at $3,000+. It would seem there is absolutely zero chance of getting the Founders at retail price.

This happens with every new series release. Why is it that NVidia can't ever get a decent stock in hand before release date? Just pisses me and everyone else off.

I was auto-notify with BB and nVidia.  No email from BB or nVidia, but could add the 5090fe to cart at 6am pst at BB.  Supposedly, the 5090fe was priority to subscription members.

This is the first FE I wanted.  AIBs are asking crazy MSRP.  Only reason to pay a little more would be slightly cooler running GPU & mem on MSI.

Maybe I'll snag a 4090 instead, they'll probably be selling relatively cheap soon.

I don't think there were any I got a direct notification from MSI but it was only the preview page...I want to hear what happened to people who camped out at Microenter. The rumors about lack of stock were extremely exaggerated, there was almost 0 stock. No AIBs lit up anywhere. B&H Said they might start pre-order next week on the 6th.

I think the cruelest part of the joke is the vapor-Launch at lunar new year so the build up of stock will be at the worst possible time. It's going to be a while...

My 2 cents on the subject is this is exactly what Nvidia wants and does purposely.  Stifle supply while there is demand.  Allows them to keep prices inflated.  Nvidia has proven over several years now how little they actually care for the average consumer/gamer.

With the uplift of the 5090 over the 4090 being mediocre (and my priority being a 240Hz WOLED 32" monitor), I'll be sitting out this generation. Looking at the Australian sites, the price is absolutely stupid... $1800 AUD over what I bought my ASUS TUF 4090 OC for at launch for the equivalent 50-series!

Scalpers are going to find that the 5090 is only really amazing on like 75 games. Most of the titles it's got just like a 25% increase over the 4090 which is pretty small compared to the normal generational increase of a graphics card.

The real problem is that the 4090 was able to crush any game so the rush to upgrade will not being as high especially for a large increase in price.

we will see, it sure looks like people will spend $2K & all they get is an extra 6-8 fpm over a 4090.

Maybe Nvidia has only released Beta drivers & they were holding back performance - once drivers are updated we should know the full performance possibilities quickly

I'm not surprised the availability of 5090 was much lower than the demand for the new GPU

I saw an Article a few days ago that leaked from a Zotak rep that they would not even have any cards to sell on launch day because Nvidia was so late to give out the blessings on the final release bios that they were going to be late into stock
MSI sent me an email the had BUY IT NOW but the link was just a loop and never went live , MSI store was crashing hard from 8:50- 9:30, They had said they would take pre-orders that would ship on the 6th,  Which is when B&H is opening up preorders at 9AM EST.
There are so few Scalped cards , like a couple review samples and maybe a dozen confirmed order receipts, once again pointing at no stock at launch .
So maybe we see a small wave in a week or two but I would bet its going to be March before we start see new cards dribbling in.

Don't count on it the 4090 is faster than any 5080 so it will be priced even used above the most expensive 5080 and will be priced below the cheapest 5090. The best chance was after the Nvidia at CES when people started to panic sell their 4090's. Now with all the facts laid out, the horrible limited 50 series launch with crap availability yeah... The days of cheaper 4090's is over until the 60 series.

Hmm good point, unfortunately for me.

Besides gaming, I'm also interested in rendering capabilities, and the 5090 looks like it will kick butt with all that VRAM.

I still have 2 brand new EVGA 3090Ti cards, a brand new EK full cover block for one of them, and found a NVLink SLI bridge on EBay a while back, so I could do a new SLI setup with the 3090Ti cards, and although the VRAM isn't pooled, I can still utilize 2 cards for rendering. Very few games these days utilize SLI though.

Also have a used EVGA 3090 that I had on water, but have put the air cooler back on that. I should probably try to sell them all while there's still demand, and just wait for a 5090 to become available, whenever that may be... not even sure which AIB I'd use, probably ASUS, but it depends which cards have waterblocks available.

Anyone have experience with Gigabyte Aorus? I see they have made a 5090 with a waterblock (Xtreme Waterforce) but I'm a bit wary of the brand, and I read somewhere they've used aluminum fins which was a stupid idea having mixed metals in a loop as everything else I have is brass. That alone would take it off my list.

Damn..  Micro Center only got a total 233 of the 5090 cards for the entire country???? I'm betting almost all of them went to staff. NVidia should be ashamed of themselves.

+1.  I'm not expecting Nvidia to have a better launch day for the 60xx series, but I'm skipping this Gen as well.

Well I'm locked into MSI again this time ,  I was able to order and Alphacool block for a Suprim 5090, Probably waiting until may for a card and have the block quite a bit sooner , I can't see 50 series demand causing what we had over the 3080, there is too many good alternatives in the wild these days, but never count out Newegg's ability to screw customers with  Combo's...

MSI went back to the old Lottery system in which they are sending ticket for the opportunity to purchase a card just like the old days of the Great GPU shortage

I bought a subscription to best buy hoping that would increase my odds of managing to snag a 5090.

I made it to the line, but it took a few minutes then told me they were out of stock.

Supposedly it will be weeks before we see fresh stock. I hope we so because scalper 100% mark up is insane.

It makes me very glad i decided to go with a used Evga card instead of waiting for the 5080 to launch. I looked at my game collection and realized i do not need to spend $1000 to $2000 on a graphics card to enjoy my games. I really could care less about Nvidia's RTX it really has added no real value or quality to games that i play Not worth the performance hit. When so many games are designed around gaming consoles that have more then 8gb of ram and NVidia has been pushing 8gb ram since the 10 series it truly shows they could care less about gamers. i almost bet in the near future Nvidia GPU's will be glorified Shield devices with AI to perform the heavy lifting of games. Without Evga customer support i just do not see the Value to Nvidia GPU's anymore. When i can no longer find Evga cards to play my games i will be buying my first Red Devil.
