x20 not tracking

hello all.
 
in november i bought this mouse and was just now able to start using it. however it doesnt track at all. it doesnt move but maybe 1mm for every 10 feet i move the mouse which made updating the firmware excruciating. i did manage it but to no avail. i really want to use this mouse. any insights?
