I got my 10980XE on 1.19 BIOS.

I managed to OC my 10980XE with 1.315V to 5.1Ghz on all cores.

Seemed stable at first.

After couple of runs, the PC just shuts down. Like immediately.

What could be the cause of this?

VRM temps seem to be ok as it's only after few CB15 runs.

CPU temps don't go past 82C (lapped CPU + CPU block and CPU alone is on 5x 480mm rads with Noctua Industrial fans) +LM

I would just love to know why it shuts down.

I have CPU VIN at auto because if I set it as anything it would not let Cinebench finish. At auto it only eats 1.863V (as according to HWInfo and ELEET) and seems happy there.

It can't be power shut down as I have AX1600i.

Any help appreciated. I just want to know why it shuts down.

At 5.0Ghz at 1.265V it doesn't shut down and temps more reasonable maxing out at 75C package temp and cores between 65-75.

When it shuts down, is it like a hard shut down, like the power went out or you switched off your power supply?  If so, that's usually going to be the CPU hitting a temp threshold or your power supply is tripping a power protection.  Pretty much everything else will usually be a BSOD or hard lock of some type.
 
Make sure you have both 8pin CPU connectors plugged in.  If so, I'm sure some others can recommend some other voltage settings, but if you can turn everything back on right away after it goes down, I'd lean towards your PSU tripping a protection.

It is basically like as if I switched the PSU off myself. That type of turn off.

I have custom red cables from Corsair. I might use stock ones to see if those help.

I can't believe that 1.315V on 10980XE can trip AX1600i.

If I recall correctly my previous 10980XE and previous X299 Dark didn't do anything like this with the exact same PSU so I'm a little baffled.

The only thing is that VIN being on auto but that can't be the problem. So strange.

But yes, after it turns off. It either turns itself off or I turn it on and everything else is as before. So you might be right regarding PSU triggering the protection.

My guess would be that for that chip with so many cores your gonna need a lot more voltage on the vcore to run a stable overclock. 5.1 is REALLY hard to accomplish, with the 10X cpu's, stabley without a tremendous amount of tweaking and some serious water cooling. The shut down double pump your seeing is the mobo telling you your settings are wrong/not sufficient/too much and its trying to auto set something workable.You want to overclock to 5ghz+, on that chip especially, put a adult diaper on and be prepared to sit and play with EVERYTHING for days on end! It's cooled very well, and it's a golden chip. Slightly worse than Luumis. He passed his chip at 5.1Ghz as well but he probably only did it once or twice. But I wouldn't know.

Temps are really in check. 75-82C temps and package temps are in 82-85C range. Passes CB many many times and then at random CB run it shuts off.

If I play Warzone at these settings 5.1 it plays fine, then after 3H of gaming I run one instance of CB15 and PC instant shut off.

Have to agree. I can switch to single rail, but it's not switching to me. Logged a ticket with Corsair....

Font even know how I would go about testing the single rail if it's even enabled.

This seems like a problem I was having but I switched to the 1200 corsair shift, see.s ok now, but not sure if it's single or .ultirail. no link usb on psu.
