Hi I've been using my 3070ti ftw since last April and it's been getting loud for a long time. I swapped my fans to noctua and even repaste and repadded it. With fans at 100% and my case side open (4000d), it thermal throttles over 85 on default power limit and settings. In order to keep it under 80 I need to drop the power limit to 80%. At idle it's down around the low 30s . I'm not sure if the cooler had a bad heat pipe or if something else is wrong, just not sure what to do atm besides run it at a low power limit

It's normal to need to repaste it. With thermal cycles, the thermal paste pumps out during heat cycles, and air sucks in during cooling cycles. Voids occur and a repaste is necessary. That's normal. That explains why it was getting louder and hotter over time. Then you repasted it. The issue remained. That's the abnormal part. More than likely, when you repadded it, you used pads which are too hard or too thick or in the wrong areas, and that caused an issue with the paste on the core being pushed down against the cooler hard enough. That's a pretty common issue.

I grabbed the kritical pads kit and made sure to use the extra pads they included for the ram size difference Also thanks for the quick reply !

Some testing you can try, before tearing down the GPU Try dropping the Voltage slider from 100% to 90%-98% instead of changing the power limit. Then if temps are still too warm, you might have to use the power limit around 100% (no OC on power limit) In my testing a small drop in voltage to the GPU can yield a decent drop in GPU temp & not make a huge impact in the performance. The reason is a cooler GPU will Boost to a higher MHz Run GPU-z while loading the GPU, look at the sensors tab & check PerfCap Reason .... what is the reason(s) given? Room temp where your PC runs? Is the 3070Ti FTW3 cooler & fans clean? Are you using a custom fan curve for the GPU? FYI --> according to Nvidia specs, Maximum GPU Temperature (in C) 93 I'm wondering if you will see a hot spot above 80C on the GPU, when you check GPU-z

Needing to reapply paste at less than a year is not normal. If I read your post correctly, you're saying this has pretty much been happening since the GPU was new? If reapplying the paste did not lower the temps, I'd look into getting an RMA. He shouldn't need to go through hoops to get the GPU operate normally. They way I read his post, it's been defective from the beginning.

on stock settings my hotspot was getting a little over 100 and then i think throttling. I was thinking that at stock settings, itd get loud but at least not thermal throttle. i managed to undervolt to 1860 @0.875 and it stays in the mid 70's while gaming pulling around 220W i think. I'll look into RMA though as well

The only other thing I wanted to add is I have a dark rock pro 4 right above the gpu. It doesn't touch but it's close. Not sure how much heat dissipates through the backplate

Update... Rma came through. Ya my card was borked. This one does have some coil whine when i left it stock but even at stock... I got 500 more points in 3dmark and it didn't even go above 75 degrees with my fans (deshroud nfa12) at 50%. Playing with some undervolt now but it looks like I'll be able to keep this card under 70 while gaming . Dam.... What a card
