Window tint for night driving? Getting really bad with other drivers with their bright headlights, and its getting worse... We should really have some kind of headlight standards...

I agree some headlights can be really bad on trucks and SUV. It’s like they have brights on. I am not sure tinting though would really make much difference since it might help the situation in the moment but could might also make it look to dark at night.

Maybe look into night time driving sunglasses that reduce glare.

I have Double 5% tint on the rear window of my car as well as the back doors and a 6" strip on the top of my windshield. I also had it on drivers side and passenger side, but it was hard to see people crossing at night, So I pulled it off. Was a ticket waiting to happen anyways... But the backdoors and rear window is super awesome for people blasting high beams.

There are numerous restrictions on tinting and headlights. Obviously a lot of people don't care and do what they want. It is obnoxious especially those super bright white HID's.

There are headlight regulations. Further, there are window tint regulations too. They vary by state.

The worst is those new led light bars. They are meant for off roading and fog yet it seams everyone who makes a trip to autozone and buys them just feels the need to show them off. The even worse thing about that is these fools dont know how to secure them so they bounce like crazy. Now its like driving into a strobe light like a moth to a flame. I just wish people would have more sense and use them only when needed. Edit, thinking about those tactical sun glasses (as seen on tv).

tint laws will vary state to state but most are 35% on front side windows and anything goes on rear doors and back windows, i had 5% on my back windows but pulled it off since it was a bit to dark, went and had ceramic 20% put on and it is great, dark enough to kill the bright lighters but i can still see pretty well out of it, and yes the PRO grade stuff is way better than the DYI stuff. as for headlight regs, there are laws regarding blinding other drivers, police rarely pull people over for it though, most HID's and LED's work great if you have A: a projector type housing and B: they are aimed correctly, provided they are quality and properly made lights, you can retrofit reflector housings with projector lenses but its not the easiest to do. also stay away from the $30 ebay/amazon junk, the led diodes are usually junk and not placed correctly. if done right you get great down road vision without blinding oncoming cars.

I used to have a couple halogens (KC knockoffs) mounted under the rear bumper of my truck for real backup lighting. Forgot to turn them off one morning and had people behind me flashing at me to turn them off. It wasn't my best moment.

No, those go off automatically... LOL I installed those KCs after backing into someone on that dark street we lived on. No street lights and nobody usually parked there. Another of my glorious moments.

Those and the incredibly bright brake lights too. Its rediculous to have an after image of led brake lights when someone stops for a red light. Heck some brake lights are now brighter than the high beams on my old 96 ranger.
My eyes are prone to overstimulation so I get an after image from things like headlights, glare, and overly bright brake lights much longer than others. That said I have increbile eyesight.
I even despise slat blinds because I get a negative image of it for a while even if just looking through the blinds for a moment.

Hey, no worries about reviving an old thread! Welcome to the forum. As for car shades, I've found that the foldable ones work pretty well, and they're easy to store when you're not using them. I've also heard good things about the retractable ones that attach to the windshield, but they can be a bit pricier. By the way, if you have any little ones, you should check out SnapShades for car sun protection for infants. It's important to keep them cool and protected from the sun while in the car. Here's the link in case you're interested: Hope this helps!!

Always best to go for one custom made for the model of car you drive. I would avoid anything that has art work on them and instead go for one that is just silver. the artwork ones put the money into the art not on making a good product is my finding. Also window tinting is a good option as some can block the UV rays and keep the car cool. For tinting it’s best to have it professionally done at a local shop and talk to a few places. I wouldn’t trust a DIY film to not come off sometime when rolling down the window which could result in more repair costs then just having a professional do it. Also for cleaning tinted windows make sure you use a window cleaner made for interior windows that are tinted and that is free from ammonia. Nowadays a lot of brands will sell exterior glass cleaners that are not made for interior tinted windows that have rain repellent in the formula. Also never use rain repellent cleaner inside a non tinted car instead of having the window fog up and having the dehumidifier take care of it you window get water drops on the window that the dehumidifier won’t take care of.
