That's a good price for the 1200 watt. My Corsair RM1200X shift was 285 Euros.

Re: Dark Palimpsest 2023/08/21 07:14:37 (permalink)
I installed the new power supply. While having everything apart, I moved up the motherboard tray. I had it lower to accommodate a roof-mounted radiator with push/pull fans. The space is filled much nicer now and I can access the connectors on the bottom of my motherboard for the first time in years lol. I haven't put side panels back on yet because I still have to water-block the 4090, but it's runnable for now.

Lit up for visibility:

Dark how I normally play:

Does anybody with a 4090 have experience with these cables and whether or not this bend radius is ok on my power cable? I had to put some pre-bend on it in a way that it still fully engages the GPU with no down/side pressure and it also should allow my to put the side-glass on. I didn't really want to add an adaptor that makes for more connections that can fail lol.

I had to order a couple small torx tools before I can do the water block for the 4090. I thought I had them, but I do not...so that part of the build still waits. I was just really pleased with the new power supply cable routing and how the system looks with the motherboard tray lifted back up. I have to live with the 24-pin and FP-USB cable coming in through the empty drive bay slots, but there's just not really anywhere else to run them safely. They're both so stiff in relation to the right-angle connectors they plug into on the motherboard that any other routing would put more strain on the connector than I'm comfortable with.

So I did a little bit more playing with OC on this after installing the new power supply because I wanted to stress test things a bit. New Speedway score: 10572. New Timespy Extreme score: 18920. Seems pretty good for an air-cooled GPU, but I certainly haven't exhausted memory clocks yet and I'm hoping to get some more GPU clocks with the water block so I didn't see a point in trying to push it too much right now.

I personally think the only way to take stress off of the GPU connector(s) is when you have another PC case that has cable routing holes. Otherwise another solution is to order a custom cable from cable mods that is longer than the one you have now.

There's currently no stress on the connector. I also have plenty of cable length to work with, but the cable is extremely stiff near the zip-tie and heat-shrink boot. I had read the PCIe spec for these and how they really don't want you to bend the cable for ~35mm, but this thing doesn't want to bend for about 55-60mm.

I was considering one of the cable-mod adaptors, but they're out of stock and I know some people had problems with those too. It's also adding another potential failure point (every connection is really), so I was kind of against that. Maybe I'll just see if they have a R/A cable for my power supply.

1. Can't with this case.
2. Don't think I can do this either. Currently just don't have the glass side panel on, but I think it'll fit the way it is (barely).
3. maybe some day, but I'm not there right now.

I may not have phrased my question well. What is shown in the picture, there's slack on the cable under the PSU shroud. It is currently bent enough to (just barely I believe) fit in my case the way it is. I was asking if the bend shown in the picture looks risky to anybody. It is sitting in a way that there's no pressure on the connector at all. I was also curious if anybody had the latest news on the Cablemod 90° adaptors. I think I heard they were re-spinning them with the new connectors.

OH...MY...

I think I'm in love. It's unbelievably fast and so incredibly quiet while it's at it. I love it. So I got the whole build done, updated my tube layout, fixed my pump order (now Reservoir -> Pump1 -> Pump2 -> 420mm-Rad -> CPU -> GPU -> MO-RA3 -> Reservoir). The older order had one pump trying to pull from the CPU, which was not really ideal. Now the reservoir feeds both pumps. The tube layout is much cleaner as well. I love how this thing turned out. I did a little bit of quick OC-ing. Threw +285 at the core, +1300 at the memory and ran some tests. It seems I can do 3060MHz on Speedway or Timespy Extreme, but Port Royal wasn't happy over 3030MHz (3045 may be feasible). All these test benches and I never hit over 46.6°C on the GPU core, 54.4°C on the hot spot, and 46.0°C on the memory junction temp.
Speedway: 10757 (updated score with a memory boost: 10956)
Port Royal: 27464 (updated score with a memory boost: 27912)
TSE: 18899 (updated score with a memory boost: 19409)

Can't wait to actually get some gaming in, but first, here are some pictures:

Installed, showing new routing (don't mind paper towels and lack of side panels):

Thought I'd add in my results for the new Cinebench:

The 4090 had +270 core and +1500 memory. I can run 3Dmark benches with higher memory clocks and this was only drawing about 220W so it might even be fine with more core boost, not sure. I didn't play with it too much, but had to get a run in with the new benchmark and new GPU. I used my 24/7 CPU settings for this run as well. I've heard it is even more of a stability check (likes to crash hardware) than the old version, btw.

Re: Dark Palimpsest 2024/09/12 08:09:52 (permalink)
Been a while since I've done any updates to this, but I just installed and ran some tests on some new memory. I previously tried to get some 7200MT/s memory working (knowing it was a risk) and it did not work lol. Couldn't even get 6400 out of it.

Well, fast-forward to recently and I was hitting about 95% utilized of my 32GB kit while trying to run an Ark Survival Ascended server and playing on the same machine. So I didn't go for faster, but double the capacity. Picked up a 64GB G.Skill Ripjaws M5 6000-CL30 kit (F5-6000J3040G32GX2-RM5RK). They even list the z690 Classy on their QVL so it seemed worth the risk. I ran memtest86 and it passed. ran through a gammit of benchmarks today and all is well. So I've got new memory, same speed, but tighter cas latency. Looks nice too:

The CPU block is an Optimus Foundation. The GPU block is a Watercool Heatkiller V. I probably could get rid of the front rad, but it wasn't very old and the overkill of the current situation pleases me lol. Also, it was already in the case and I just figured I'd use it instead of trying to sell it.
