(rumor) https://videocardz.com/newz/nvidia-geforce-rtx-4090-4080-4070-get-new-rumored-specs-rtx-4070-with-7168-cores-and-10gb-160-bit-memory According to Kopite, the RTX 4090 would get more cores than previously reported. Instead of 16128 CUDAs, the new specs list 16384 cores, so an upgrade from 126 SM (Streaming Multiprocessors) to 128. The full configuration of AD102 GPU supposedly has 144 cores, but such configuration is more than likely to be reserved for future TITAN/RTX4090Ti SKU. Other parts of the specs are unchanged. This card is the flagship RTX 40 model with TDP expected to reach 450W. It should launch with 24GB GDDR6X memory clocked at 21 Gbps. RTX 4080 with 10240 CUDA coresFurthermore, we now have first rumored GPU configurations of RTX 4080 and RTX 4070 GPUs. The former is the only known AD103 based graphics card, which would supposedly debut a month after RTX 4090. According to Kopite, the RTX 4080 would feature 10240 CUDA cores and 16GB memory. Interestingly, this card might not rely on GDDR6X like RTX 4090 supposedly does, but GDDR6 instead. This part of the specs is most likely to change though, because 18 Gbps GDDR6 memory would actually be slower than RTX 30 predecessors (RTX 3080 has 19 Gbps memory). However, one should underline the fact that AD102 GPU has larger L2 cache, which may work just as efficiently as Radeon RX 6000 series. In other words, the memory speed does not need to be that much faster. RTX 4070 with 10GB and 160-bit memoryFinally, RTX 4070 sees a rumored spec update. The card is no longer expected with 12GB memory but 10 GB instead. This would also mean a narrower memory bus from 192-bit to 160-bit. It is said that RTX 4070 would feature 7168 CUDA cores, which would mean 512 disabled CUDA cores on AD104 GPU. The RTX 40 series are now rumored to launch in late Q3/early Q4. The initial lineup would feature all three SKUs mentioned above, however their rollout would span across the fourth quarter. Treat this info as rumor. I'm sure more rumors will continue the closer we get to the next gen NVIDIA GPU launch.

So instead of missing 2304 cuda cores on the 4090 it will be missing 2048. That is still a ton of cores missing. No way I’m purchasing a 4090 with it missing that many cores. If it were missing 256 cores like previous gens then I would buy one, but missing over 2000 cores is just too many cuda cores missing imo.
A 4090 ti would have a significant performance boost with an additional 2048 cores added.
The difference between 3090 and 3090 ti was only 256 cuda cores, so performance difference between the two were very small… like 10% at best.
2048 cores will be a massive uplift in performance when comparing 4090 to 4090 ti, or whatever they want to call it.

I agree to treat it as a rumor since people around for a while will remember the rumor was that the 3080 would launch at a price of $1200 and a 3080Ti would launch at $1500. Until NVIDIA released the price nobody knew what it would sell for which means the leaks are not as trustworthy as you might expect. Normally I products are announced and NVIDIA shares benchmark results long before they come out. While I personally trust independent benchmarks from reviewers instead of from a company NVIDIA will tell us exactly what the specs are.

I absolutely agree that is too many, but that is probably NVidia getting wise knowing people will pay for those extra cores, so they are taking advantage of the market they have enabled. I could even see them disabling 512 cuda cores and it still being worth it. I think I will stick with my 3090’s that I have for a few more years. (I say that almost every time and then end up buying one of the newer generation cards…)

With it missing 2000+ cores they could release a Ti and a Titan card.

if that's true,,, they really REALLY think ahead!! i mean... already capping performance of an unreleased new product thinking on the sells of the next unreleased product!!

If they cut down what the 4090 ES's have for the retail to reduce power consumption ugh... The cards will not rip and tear though Super Ultrawide 1440/1600 or 4k... It will not be the big jump in performance that I have seen. That is going to suck...
