I guess there's not a way to post a poll here so I'll just pose it as an open ended question. With the cost of fuel/hotels/rental cars being exceptionally high this year, will you change your travel plans or travel less this summer? Bonus: It would be interesting to hear your reason why.

Thankfully my wife and I both have jobs that don’t allow us to take much vacation time without extensive amounts of planning and coordination, so we have only planned out a couple of things and the prices won’t change our plans as everything but the fuel cost was anticipated and paid for ahead of time.

Nope, I have a hybrid so I get great gas milage but even if I didn't, I would still be planning a summer vacation. With things getting back to normal sometimes things are just worth spending money on like a vacation. What it might do is instead of nice places to eat on the trip I probably would go to like a local deli for a sandwich for lunch to make up for the cost in gas then for dinner have something nice.

I have a Hybrid that uses both gas and electric. Gets good gas mileage. Luckily my wife and I both work. The gas is $6.25 a gal right now. I'm guessing by this summer it will be around $8.00 or more a gal. Then I will be driving less.

Interesting to me that most of you are only talking about the fuel costs. Hotels, food, airfare - have all exponentially increased. If you own a hybrid or vehicle that gets high MPG, you likely bought that vehicle to save on fuel costs. Regardless of how great your MPG is, you're spending more than you did before to use that vehicle. I do forget that this forum is probably mainly comprised of tech workers who have switched to WFH and likely are spending a fraction on fuel they were pre-pandemic anyway.

I rarely go on vacay. I have a great home in a quiet neighborhood with a pool. Simply put, wifey and I are home bodies, and we have plenty of things to do at home. We actually made extra travel plans this summer to see family in another state. Since both of us work from home, gas prices are irrelevant and never considered. We finished a 500 mile road trip last month.

We just finished a total 1200 mile road trip, recently. I work from home and her commute to work is only five miles...so we do keep mileage pretty low.

yeah, no vacation for us. I planned a backpacking trip for August but luckily, I paid for airfare before the war in Ukraine. That is, if my flight doesn't get cancelled.

Since my wife and I are retired, most of the driving we do is local. Not to many miles driven and no vacation plans anyway.

I have a staycation coming up the week after the 4th of July. It is a staycation not due to gas prices but because we have our dream home here. WIP

I just got back from a 5 day vacation. Cost in fuel pulling a camper was around $300 in fuel. Not bad from Savannah to Daytona. Do plan on another short vacation next month. Why does fuel cost stop you from lifetime memories? It's only money. Save up or do without to make those memories. Just my thoughts.

I think that this year is coming off of the pandemic and feeling the need to get out and do something this summer. People are likely to spend money on a concert or trip that they might not have done if the cost of gas and lodging increased like this before the pandemic. I do want to point out that yeah as a hybrid driver I do notice the gas increase but it's easier to handle when it's like $23 a month in an increase instead of people who are seeing a $60 a month increase because of it.

Tbh, I’m glad about how I’ve spent this summer. I did travel less this year, but I’m sure the people surrounding you make your life. I mean, it’s mostly not about the place you’re heading to but about all the people surrounding you during your trip. I think that’s the key to a happy life. Actually, I’ve already visited all the countries I’ve ever wanted to visit, so this summer I had to pick a random country from this list So, we (my wife and I) went to Madrid. A lovely city to visit. I think it’s one of the brightest cities I’ve ever been to. Have you ever been to Madrid or Spain in general?

No plans. We've had one holiday in 10 years, and that was to take our daughter to Florida for a week to see Sea World and Disney World. We're usually too busy with work, or just too damn exhausted to go anywhere.

It's definitely been a tough year for travel costs, that's for sure! I think a lot of people are going to be cutting back on their travel plans or opting for cheaper alternatives. Personally, I'm planning on doing a bit of both. I'm going to be cutting back on the number of trips I take overall, but when I do travel, I'm going to try to be a bit more strategic about it. I'll be looking for ways to save money on transportation and lodging, whether that means taking advantage of discounts and deals or just being more mindful about where I spend my money. I already found some accessible tourist routes for my Helsinki trip at . You could also find there some free options for your holiday.

For me I can say I didn’t really change my driving habits but as said above my car is a hybrid so it hasn’t taken a huge bite out of my wallet. I definitely think it is going to play a major role though in what cars sell for the next few years.
As for a trip it depends on how far you are planning to drive but if it was a day drive the added cost is probably in the neighborhood of going out to dinner for one person so not that bad really. Not to say I would be doing that daily but I wouldn’t cancel a vacation or not see family occasionally because of it.

I drove like normal, but I drive a Kia, i already get 36/highway and 27 city as long as i don't put my foot into it. I will say because of rising gas costs my car actually appreciated, it went from being worth 1000, to now being worth 1200 lol

I also say my hybrid appreciate in value since gas prices increased. Probably anyone with a used hybrid trying to sell it is going to find more interest in it than people trying to sell a a car with poor miles per gallon.

Oh yea, I'm already seeing SUV's and Trucks falling in price on the local classified's and this in Texas. The average classified price for a 10yr old 1/2 truck last year was 7,000, when I browsed today 3-4,000 was more normal.
