So my 1080 stopped working. Since it was out of warranty, I decided to open it up. And this is what I  found: Question, what part of the card shorted/blew up? Is it fixable?

I would say that it is not fixable. It looks like the PCB is burnt and traces are missing.
I can't tell exactly which component failed, as the damage is spread over a broad area. Probably a power stage/MOSFET failed.

I have the same exact 1080 and mine blew up just like in the images around the same time as yours. Looking around it's a known issue. Mine was just beyond the 3year warranty.

I wouldn't say that it is a "known issue". If it was a known issue, which component blew up, why, and bandaids to prevent it would be information available to us. Instead, I would say that it is not an uncommon issue.
