ugh sucks not being able to predict where tech is going in 8-10 years what will be the basic ram capacity then...
My wifes PC needs more ram for video work. So will give her my 64gb CL18 3600 ram. So in the debate do I get 64gb 4000mhz CL16 B-Die have more speed/frames and play room to tinker yet worry about needing more ram in 8-10 years, Or do I get 128gb 4000mhz CL18 C-Die get less frames/speed and less room to tinker yet probably not worry about ram in 8-10 years.

I always side on MOAR. The latency matters but if you are trying to not change things for an extended period of time, the higher amount of RAM would be best for video work. What is the CPU?

T hose who abuse power, are nothing but scumbags! The challenge of power is how to use it and not abuse it. The abuse of power that seems to create the most unhappiness is when a person uses personal power to get ahead without regards to the welfare of others, people are obsessed with it. You can take a nice person and turn them into a slob, into an insane being, craving power, destroying anything that stands in their way. Affiliate Code: 3T15O1S07G

My main pc won’t be doing video just my wife’s. Will be putting my current 3600 CL 18 ram into hers. Mine will be used for gaming, have an i9 12900kf. Plan on getting 7-10 years out of it like my last two machines I used. It’s pretty much hope 64gb is still overkill in that time if I go with the B-Die 4000mhz 4x16gb CL16 sticks or just go complete overkill yet with slower C-Die or micron 4000mhz CL18 4x32 I do know there is no game that uses that much ram currently unless there is an issue and a memory leak at launch. Yet with hardware going into the leaps and bounds race things are going to change very rapidly.

Like right now I have 64GB DDR4 3600 CL18 it runs at gear 1, on my system but the ram is going to go into my wifes machine for video editing. I really want to shoot for an upgrade in speed/performance and not a side grade with say just 3600 CL14-16. Really want to shoot for 4000mhz CL16 as there are no more CL14 32gb 2x16 or 64gb 2x32kits CL16"This is option is not happening" on the market.

based on the editing software used, what does the software company recommend ? While editing with current PC - how much RAM is being used ?

My wife is getting my old ram she will only be using about 40gb max. This upgrade is for my gaming pc as she gets my old ram I am going to do an upgrade on my machine with 2x kits of G.SKILL Trident Z Royal Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 4000 (PC4 32000) Desktop Memory Model F4-4000C16D-32GTRSA Her pc is not really part of my question hehe. It is the reason I am getting ram though for my own pc as an upgrade to use with my core i9 12900kf, MSI MPG Z690 Edge WIFI DDR4 board. Really didn't want to go with CL18-19 3600 128gb 4x32 as I want to maybe get some performance out of it, so decided to go with 64gb again for my gaming pc but with B-Die CL16 4000mhz 4x16 and just hope it works at its rated speed in gear 1.

Only 45 bucks difference I would much rather have the Samsung B-die with better/lower timings and latency especially for later as I overclock it past 5000mhz in the last 2-3 years of owning this pc as I try to squeeze an extra 30 or so FPS out of it while also overclocking the rest of the system. Ty though but Samsung B-Die>All at least for DDR4.

Yeah, the ones I have are B-Die as well, it does make a difference. Forgive me if I missed something but why aren't you getting DDR5 memory? I saw that you had a 12900k is that on a z690?

Yeah I want the lower CL for more potential overclocking for later gives me more room to work with, Yes I am on a Z690 a MSI MPG Z690 Edge WIFI DDR4 board. Not going to buy a DDR5 board the price for what I want is more than my cpu, and for Gear2 the 6200-6400mhz DDR5 is mostly all scalper prices. Would not really want to go under that. If you get the right DDR4 it will stay in gear 1. Some ddr4 kits at 4000mhz on some boards drops to gear 2. Trying to avoid that as much as possible.

Well can only get one set to post I guess the sub timings are not close enough and I am not too keen on pumping over 1.5v into the ram to see if that can get it to post and boot. Not with this Corsair Ram Cooler alone... So using one kit, Really do not want to return a kit I touched, took out of its packaging not fair for the next owner. So second kit went into my wife's pc. She will have to use the Ancient i7 970 ES with 48gb of ram for video encoding/ripping/editing. G.Skill not sure if they read my email or just the subject, but they said my kits are compatible with this board I would have to run them at 3600 if there is no support from MSI yet, and hit msi up to get support. Kind of going hmmm. But imagine my z490 board needs a bios update to run on 1t, on my Z690 with a single kit it runs at 1t G1 So that is pretty awesome. Made some big jumps in performance in some on the FPS lows like the CPU is like oh finally I can keep up with your resolution with shadows and npc ai. Pretty interesting couple of days.
