I like to rest my fingers on my mouse but I cannot do that with this mouse as it often clicks when I just rest. I don't grip the mouse tightly and I don't have huge hands. Never had this issue with other mice before but these buttons seem way oversensitive. Is it supposed to be this way?

I want to say it's supposed to be that way. I have their old Torq X10 right next to the X17 and they feel like they have the same actuation force needed. I can't rest my fingers on either of them without clicking. I've probably never used a mouse that I can rest my fingers on without clicking it, so my hand is used to hovering the fingers for hours a day.
