The Intel Core i5-12600K is set to feature 6 high-performance cores and 4 high-efficiency cores running at base speeds of 3.7 GHz and 2.8 GHz respectively. These cores can boost to 4.9 GHz and 3.6 GHz with Turbo Max Boost 3.0 however we don't expect much more speed can be extracted out of them using overclocking so default performance with sufficient cooling should be close to max. We have recently seen some CPU-Z test scores for the processor from prominent leakers which show the chip scoring 746 and 7058 points in the single-threaded and multi-threaded tests when running stock on Windows 11. The processor was also tested with an unknown overclock on Windows 10 where it scored 79X and 72XX points respectively.

These scores are extremely competitive with them easily beating the Ryzen 5 5600X by 19.5% and 46.7% in single-threaded and multi-threaded tests. We still don't know where Intel will position the Core i5-12600K in the market so any judgment on the value of these processors will need to wait until release. While we don't currently know the expected MSRP for the Core i5-12600K we have seen pricing for the Core i7-12700K and Core i9-12900K at 469.99 USD and 669.99 USD respectively. Intel is expected to announce these Alder Lake desktop processors during an event on October 27th with general availability expected November 4th.

I'm curious as to the pricing. Intel needed a year to make a mid-range CPU that could beat AMD.

Maybe on the 27th we will have the pricing answers.  I expect them to be competitive with AMD's offerings.

I hope that Intel will continue to price their CPUs fairly. You can thank AMD for that.

Fun Fact, CPU-Z and HWBot are not recognizing clock speeds from cpu-Z 1.97 and prior. Notice that the image used in the article is 1.97, which makes me curious if it can even be trusted at this point. Two screen shots from HWBots Facebook:

Not sure why they compare Intel 16t bench vs 12t bench from AMD. That multi-core is a little meaningless.

Single core gain is only ~15%, which is still great considering Intel has made almost no progress in 5 generations of chips. A 6600k scores 530 in cpu-z. About 44% gain since 2015 and 6 generations of chips.

I look forward to real reviews and to Zen4. Lets see if AMD can claw back to parity on single core. It's nice to have real competition again after 10+ years of Intel dominance.

Zen 4 will be about a year from now. I hope AMD can release Zen 4 earlier.

either that or the zen 3 refresh with v cache on it will give a nice uplift they say

It's all academic with the chip shortage. I have a X570 AM4 board sitting around at the moment pondering chip. I'll probably drop in the Zen 3 refresh in 22 when they release the new cache version.

CPU shortage isn't nearly as bad as GPU. Especially for Intel where they have their own fab(s). It's possible to buy CPUs at or near MSRP. GPUs are 2x-3x MSRP. Even MSRP by some AIB partners are +50% of the price set by nvidia. e.g. ASUS 3080 is $1150 but "normal" price is $699. I know AIB's need profit, but usually the market over Nvidia set price is like $25-$150, not $500.

*EDIT*  OOOPS , I put this into the wrong article about the Intel processors ...   **
    ...................................................................................................

    https://www.hardwaretimes.com/intel-core-i9-12900k-used-2-3x-power-than-the-ryzen-9-5950x-in-official-benchmarks-lacked-the-win-11-l3-cache-fix/

Intel fudged up the tests pretty considerably though..by setting their chips to max power draw  &  the AMD ones to normal, plus not integrating any recent fixes , of course ..

I mean , we all know companies tend to skew their results favorably to themselves of course,.. but come on Intel .. .  This one was pretty cheesy .
