EVGA Flow Control Operation

I am running an CLC 280 and using Flow Control I have a fan curve set to up ramp up speed at 60 C and it works as expected as long as I have the dashboard running in the foreground.  From what I read is that your settings should write to the firmware so in theory should operate the same regardless if Flow Control is running or not, but I am not seeing that.  Fan speed stays at the lowest speed I have set regardless if CPU temps rise or not ... unless I start up Flow Control.
 
Has anyone else had or seen this or am I misinterpreting how the functionality should work?

    Confirmed, I see the same behavior if I close out of Flow Control. Pretty sure fan curves cannot be saved to firmware, only static pump/fan levels.

    I kind of wonder if it would be better let a fan header on the motherboard control the fans?  I have 2 cpu fan headers and while I get you couldn't set up your own fan curve and all that, but your fans would spin up when needed without extra software always running. 
     
    Has anyone done that?  I'm sure everything would work, but just curious to see if anyone else has tried.

    Yes, many have reported connecting the fans to a MB PWM fan header. You can create a fan curve in whatever SW you use to control all other fans in your system. MB manufacturers all have different SW to control fans. FanControl or Argus Monitor are non-manufacturer specific tools to control fans.

    Thank you for your help!  I think I'll go ahead and make that change. 

    I am trying out Argus Monitor just to weigh all options. Is is the most capable of any third party app I've tried and it supports EVGA CLCs. It can control the pump and fan speed, and set fan curves based on coolant temp, and many other sensors (CPU temp, GPU temp etc.), all with the fans plugged into the pump as it was designed. The caveat is it is not free.  It is $9 for 1 year, $24 for 3 years but it isn't subscription based so the latest version available while your license is "active" you will own. Also, it doesn't support the new driver which is installed with FC 2.0.12, you need to use the CCVI driver from 2.0.11 and earlier. I am going to test this out for a while, and contact the developer to see if he intended to update it to support the new driver. I don't feel FC is going to be improved, if EVGA was going to do that, it would have been done already.
