Hi there.   I am an occasional gamer and recently my graphics  card died.  I had a Gigabyte NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Graphic Card - 6 GB GDDR5 - 1.86 GHz Core - 192 bit Bus Width card.  What  would be a good-enough replacement for this card.  i am strapped  for cash so I am hoping to get  something less costly (and available).  If I went with a $100 card such as an MSI NVIDIA GeForce GT 1030 2GD4 LP Overclocked Single-Fan 2GB GDDR4 PCIe 3.0 Graphics Card would I be disappointed.  I know that it won't be as good  but will it be acceptable.....for a year or so until I can get  the cash I need?

Any recommendations  would be appreciated.  Thanks

You're a couple days early for an April Fools's Day joke.  A GT 1030 has the fraction of the rendering power of the GTX 1660.  Too give you an idea

However since we have no idea about the rest of your hardware, what you games and what resolutions...etc etc... we're just guessing.

I would give r/hardwareswap a try out on reddit. There are a few rules and things you have to learn but you would have a better chance of finding a card for better prices than ebay or craigslist.

You're gonna have to go back a few gens to something like the gtx 780 or 960 used. But definitely don't buy the 1030, that thing is a complete waste of sand.

A GT 1030 is designed almost exclusively to provide more monitor outputs for office computers, it's an absolute joke in terms of gaming performance (IT actually plopped one in my Dell OptiPlex so I didn't have to suffer with VGA adapters). For cheap options keep an eye on Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist and hope you can score a deal. If you want an upgrade quick I would recommend scouting out locally-owned computer shops, one of my buddies scored a 3070 last month at a mom-and-pop in the back of a grocery store.

    Hi Joliet!

I am a little late to the game here but wanted to hop in. GPU prices are so crazy right now my recommendation would be to try and find a used Radeon Rx570/580 or At least a GTX1650 if you can. Just don't pay a ridiculous price if you can avoid it. I am a bit concerned that your GTX1660 died though since we are only 2 years off the launch date. I'd give your system a good once over to make sure the card wasn't blown due to anything avoidable (PSU issues, dust buildup, overheating, etc.). Not saying this happened, just want to make sure we don't have a hidden GPU killer there.  Also, I am guessing your card is out of warranty with Gigabyte?

    Cheers!

I think other users have pointed you in the right direction with hardware swap and ebay.
RX 570, 580 or 590 are good budget options, as are any of the 16-series cards. Some of the 10-series like the 1070 and variants may also be a possible alternative.
If you don't want a used card, it's definitely going to be rough.

a 1030 won't give playable results on 1080p, but look on offerup, you can find really good used GPU deals there.

A 1030 is only good as a HTPC card. It will not be enough for gaming. Getting a used card that miners aren't after is your best bet. A used GTX 970 or 1050ti is probably a better replacement for you. It won't be as good but it isn't as overpriced as other cards that have more vram.

For sure go for second hand GPU's with that budget. Like people already said go for second hand market places.
And this post is more than a month old now, did you get lucky to find any GPU Joliet_tech?

1030 isn't going to play many games well. Probably would go with a used higher end 900-series card or 1050 Ti.

This probably is not the direction you are going, but given the current state of the market perhaps you could define "died."  Given the age of your card, perhaps a temporary stopgap measure would be if the card is reparable through some relatively cheap means (ie replacing the thermals).

I would suggest asking friends to see if anyone has cards they want to sell. That way you're not getting price gouged as even Facebook Marketplace is inflated right now.

I could use the bracket on your dead card. I have a low profile 1650 and would like to install it on a full size case and I'm in need of a full size bracket.
