Do you have integrated graphics onboard? If so, just wait it out man. Especially if you consider yourself an "occasional gamer"

Definitely dont buy 1030, this GPU is much worse than yours 1660. I would try my luck with  3070 or buy some used GPU, but buying used GPU is different beast and you dont have certainty there and you must be very experienced with it. It's pretty dangerous i would say.

a 1660 ti was a good replacement for me, and a bit of an upgrade as well

If possible, I'd use iGPU until prices settles OR watch out for drops on GPUs on MSRP.

You still have some time to get elite, I might go for that route and jump for the 3070ti queue. Might not be the best value but it's the next best thing coming out right now that gives you the upgrade you need.

I actually had a GTX 950 until a few months ago, and it's definitely usable (40-60 fps) enough at medium-low settings. It shouldn't be that hard to score for a little above $100

The best thing to happen for gamers happens to Ethereum in mid-July (EIP-1559).  When people stop mining and selling off their GPUs, you'll likely be able to get a good deal on at least a 1660 Super or better.

I would hop on queue and make do with a low end card or integrated graphics if you only game occasionally. Depends on your definition of occasionally of course but if you dont play all that often given the current market situation it might just pay to wait.

GPU's won't be more available in July. Nvidia has already said the graphics card shortage isn't due to miners. It's due to bots, scalpers, and generated demand. If people didn't buy from scalpers there wouldn't be these problems.

#1: global cumulative shortage
and when people will stop to buy cards from scalpers for mining, probably prices on market become normal again.
i paid $800 for my card 3 years ago and i can easy to sell it for the same price to day

There's no way Nvidia said that as the shortage is due to manufacturing issues just like just every other product dependent upon the semi industry is. The auto industry is another example as is housing construction. Supply chain issues etc etc. The difference this time around isn't scalpers, it was a global pandemic. I know, not as sexy as raging at an imaginary foe.

Nvidia is actually pumping out more graphics cards than they've ever before. The shortage is because of generated demand- eg. people think there's a shortage so they buy GPU's whenever they see them- only exacerbating the situation. The GPU shortage is as real as the toilet paper shortage (remember that?), only this time, instead of reassuring customers, Nvidia insists the shortage will last until 2022.

Yes, supply chain issues resulted in a shortage of toilet paper after panic buying all the stock.  There's was simply not the manufacturing capacity to replace it. JIT ya know.
Why would Nvidia lie to their customers about supply issues? The shortages will last until 2022.

Whatever you do don't spend $100 on a DDR4 gt1030. You can get a DDR5 version for $30 more on BestBuy.com and it will make a huge difference. Get used to playing all your games at the lowest quality settings and set resolution as low as you have to until you reach at least 30 FPS.

This is the worst time to buy a graphics card in the last 20+ years, so you can either wait or buy a pre-built PC with the card you want if you don't want to be price gouged.

That's no solution. The latest Ryzen APUs are roughly equivalent to the GT 1030 (GamersNexus just finished testing them) and require specific motherboards to support them, and not all AM4 mobos do.

Nvidia isn't lying to their customers. The more they insist there'll be a shortage the longer it will be! The difference is that unlike by the toilet paper shortage, where manufacturers attempted to calm down consumers, Nvidia is just insisting the shortage will last much longer. If people don't impulse-buy graphics cards, then there would be no shortage. Not likely gonna happen until Nvidia admits that.

Unfortunately it's a bad time to try and find cheap decent cards but a 1030 just won't cut it on most games.

Yeah I tried playing on a GT 1030 and got 12 FPS on everything LOW. That's pretty bad, even for a GT 1030. Not sure it's much better than integrated graphics.

Currently, it is a bit hard to find a similar 1660 card with USD150. you may try to find 1600 or RX580/570
