My wife's using my old 1070 ti and she never experiences crashes while we play Valehim.  Our friend's using a GTX 950 and she doesn't, either.  I'm using a 3080 FTW3 and the game crashes constantly.  Does anybody else experience this?  It seems to be limited to 20 and 30 series cards, based on reports.  People have been trying running the game in high priority, underclocking their cards, reinstalling drivers, disabling overlays, forcing full screen, studio drivers, everything.  The 20 and 30 series experience lots of crashes while playing Valheim.  Who else is having this problem?

It seems to happen whenever I go through a portal, or when I log out, probably while it's saving.

I was getting this on my 3090 XC3, but once running the card at stock (had a +100Mhz on it) it was fine.
Every other game/benchmark I tried was fine with the +100Mhz OC worked, so I don't know, maybe something to do with Re-Bar, drivers or both.

I play it with a asus 3080 strix highly overclocked... No crashes. I also play it on a laptop with a 3060..no crashes on that pc either. I dont touch any settings on the pc.... I just start the game and play. Overlays work fine. Msi afterburner...HWID etc.

Im on a 3070 FE, i was getting crash/reboots when i had my GPU plugged with the last PCIe connector on my PSU AND if i didnt ramp up my case/AIO intake fans to 1100RMPs... I suspected it to be heat, so one day i did my routine cleaning, switched my PSU to non ZERO RMP mode, switched the PCIe connector to the first one and haven't experienced any crashes/reboots since...

3090 ftw3 ultra gaming overclock with over 600 hours played in Valheim, I've had about 3 crashes.

Oh by the way a unstable CPU overclock can cause Valheim crashes or WHEA errors, exactly like Minecraft Java can.
Something else to look at if your CPU is overclocked.

This is dependent on how many people are connected and how much world building you have done.

Minecraft Java will cause WHEA errors on a Prime95 small FFT stable system too, this is primarily a Intel Skylake to Comet lake problem, the new Rocket Lake CPU's don't seem to have that issue.

Apex had a same problem in the past, but the devs patched it when it was reported to them.

But these games are pounding the cache on the CPU.

My best bud has a 3070 plugged in and it's crashing for him but he rolled back a Windows 10 update and things seem to be stable now.

Could it be as simple as locking fps to a lower value? I used to go through so much **** trying every game option and gpu settings, but often locking my fps solves many crashes I have (especially with Ubisoft games lol, always the biggest offender).

On my first 3090 I would get crashes if I had it overclocked, if I ran at stock settings then it ran fine (only with Valheim). This is also the same 3090 that I got the red light of death on, with the new card I can run it overclocked and Valheim runs fine. The other oddity I had with the first card and Valheim, when I tabbed out to like Chrome the screen would flicker until I brought Valheim back to the front, with the new card that no longer happens.

Valheim is still in early access so id just wait for some updates and not blame a fine gpu.

It's not a Valheim issue, some of these cards have a fault where they pop a fuse for some reason when playing games that aren't graphically demanding. Google "3090 red light of death" and there's a bunch of other stories out there of it happening with other games that aren't super high res graphics. EVGA has been super awesome about RMA'ing these when it happens, so kudos to them for the customer service.
