Everyone knows how exciting it is to come home from MC with a brand spanking new product. Yes, I just purchased the EVGA NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra this weekend. Now I read that there are known defect(s) in the card with bricking? I won't be mining or anything, however I will be gaming. What previous known deficts, or known issues with the card should I look for? Is there a born on date, whereas I would know that certain issues have been fixed, like a marking on the box? I am not sure if any of that sounded clear? BTW, new to the forum, thank you in advance.

Welcome to the EVGA Forums Congrats on your purchase & new 3090 FTW3 Ultra - Download a new/newer Nvidia driver .. one released after the 3090 was first available - Make sure MB has the BIOS set for Fast BOOT & CMS Off before you install the GPU ... you want MB to check the hardware - Turn Windows Fast Startup = Off & before you shut down to add new card - Hold the Shift key down before you click shutdown & hold that shift key until PC is Off, then unplug everything connected to PC & wall outlet --> because W10 or 11 will load from a Saved file of the Previous startup if you do not. If you forget, do two back to back Windows "restarts" .. just Boot & click Restart & again - Best to use 3 separate 8_pin PCIe power cables, one for each socket on the GPU Once your MB & Windows sees the new hardware: update the firmware if PX1 tells you there is an update (black screen until Windows loads if one of the things addressed for those using DP cable) Some people have experience "red light issue" & have posted on the EVGA Forums about the "issue" --> When updating the "firmware" Running EVGA PX1 can be safe; but, you must let it finish ... I go offline & stop all software in the background even security stuff - yes screen will go Black & fans will go to 100% .... not an issue .... do not touch PC till update has completed - Now, reboot with the Windows "restart button" & make sure your security software is On again before you connect to any network The other posts seems to be centered on Memory Temps the back of the card memory mostly ... several of those posts are about Mining activity or large OC of Memory clock ..... Not an issue at stock clocks Learn your way around the EVGA Forums, Rules & limits on new accounts Ultimate Self-Starter Thread For New Members for those who do not see signatures .. like on Mobile ...... And also since you double posted this thread I'll add it here.
I'm sure your fine at this point.. check rev number next to the pcie connector. Should say Rev. 1.0 or Rev 1.2.
The first revision was the problem model I believe.. Rev .5.
Lucky ya bought it from MC! 30 day return window.. though check the reciept. I think it's 14 days on mb or cpus.
ALSO DONT FORGET TO REGUSTER THAT CARD ASAP!!
You only have 14 days from purchase to register it or it will cost you $160 for an extended 2 year warranty!!! Just to qualify to see step up options the next 90 days for a 3090ti if wanted!
That's the issue I have right now.
I've been with Evga since like 2005 or so and I've never knew this and no one will tell you!
Yes their is a step up program for 90 days.. but you must register the card asap 14 days after buying it or it will cost you.. you have to buy an extended warranty just for the privilege to enter the program and see what options you have an final price to do it.
Haha.. I just want to know what the cost is and they eont tell me.
If you buy the card from evga their is only a 14 day window as well.. had no idea.
Gota remember all this on the next round.

Same revision as mine! Mine is about month and a half old.
Bought up a full Ek water block front and back so.. with thst being said i guess I'm stuck and no 3090ti for me.. unless by some miracle and a Kingpin 3090ti is an option haha.. then I might have to hand my son the 3090. I'm not taking a loss on a new 3090 for $1800+ I paid.

I am in that dilema right now. I have a Powercolor Red devil 6900XT ultimate paid $1,499.00 for. I do have another PC that has a 2070 super in. But I don't game much on that. Picking up the FTW3 Ultra Saturday was not in my plans, but I couldn't believe it was in Stock at MC. 24 GB of memory might be over kill, however at least it future proofs for the next few years. What made you jump on the 3090, and thinking about the 3090ti? Gaming? That me, gaming for now..

Had a 2080ti Kingpin for like 3 years.. with everything going on the past few years I gave up trying to upgrade to a 3000 gpu. Took up other hobbies.. I'm like strange where I'm attracted to the latest and greatest.. build a new rig and then get bored and move on to other things haha. So anyways.. somehow I got bored and got on some discord channels to see what's doing for new graphics cards.. read about the whole deal of a raffle at mc every few days when they get a shipment in.. Looking at what a total upgrade would cost me 5-6K, I said screw itand just get a new Samsung Odyessy Neo G9 suoer ultra wide and just have a blast gaming again. 2 weeks later I believe I ended up freaking out cause cards started flooding the channels and decided to jump and get a card while I could.. thinking maybe it's a good time and what if the chance is gone weeks from now. Hearing people talk about the 4000 6+ months from now and wondering if it would be the 3000 series launch all over and won't be able to score one Like last time. So jumped on too soon! Haha.. so flooded prices dropped 3+ weeks later. Awesome. And the 3090ti that was rumored was real and landed as well! Double ouchie! Son will love pc gaming on his new rig now that I'm finishing up rebuilding my old rig in a different case with new water cooling.. Interesting about the 4000 series GPU's. I had not heard. However, looking at the latest games, i.e. battlefield 2042 which is what I play, I cross my fingers the 3090 will be good for severals years. I can't imagine going through this market again when the 4000's come out. I upgraded everything just to play bf2042 maxed out! Haha
Monitor goes up to 240hz.. everything turned on ultra I see like 70-90fps. :/. 100-130fps with dlss? Turned on. About 20 frames less with raytracing on.
Anyways.. even on high it wont go faster.. frame rate is the same on ultra. So I guess thats nice cause I'd rather crank everyone on and have it look great anyways.
My rig:

Too funny me too! I put together this nice rig to play BF2042. Interesting about the FPS. With my Power Color 6900XT Ultimate my FPS avg between 125 - 140 FPS medium settings. 3090 FTW3 Ultra, 119 - 130 FPS, RTX 2070 super 85 - 95 FPS My rig: Motherboard MSI X570 Tomahawk WIFI SAM enabled GPU - PowerColor AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT Red Devil (previously , just replaced a few days ago) EVGA NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra (new two days) Memory - 32Gig G.SKILL 32GB 2X16 3600 CL14 RIP CPU - Ryzen 7 5800X Monitor Acer Nitro 27" IPS XV272U VBMIIPRX G 0.5 NS, 17 Power Supply Corsair RM1000X Case Fractial Design Torrent RGB Full Tower I am on the fence now to just return the EVGA NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra, and get the EVGA NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 FTW3 Ultra. Looking at the price difference of $700.00 and not that much in FPS value.

I say keep it and upgrade when the 5080 comes out. This is the first time Ive been up to date with pc hardware thanks to the que system. Im not worrying about the 4000 series unless its a HUGE difference in performance.
I did have bad luck with a 3090 ftw3 ultra (red lips) when first released but was sent a new one (black lips) and never had a problem.

About an half an hour too late, I just exchanged it for the FTW3 3080 Ultra 12GB. Installed it, and played a round of BF2042. So, now I have $566.58 back in my pocket. I appreciate the feedback though, glad it's working for you!

I think for BF2042 it's the game. Or some tweaking we have to do. Why? Because with BFV, I can get 240 FPS. At least I did with the 6900XT, so the 3090 would be the same. Tonight, I will go back and play bf 2042 and see how it rocks with the 3080 12GB.

Good thread but I'm still confused about the thread "Fixing EVGA's 7 Figure Problem with FTW3 30 Series cards." Is it "only" the Rev .5 cards having this issue? Rev 1.0 or Rev 1.2 should be fine or installing the latest firmware will fix this issue no matter which Rev my EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra card have?

You can't fix the Rev 0.1 3090 FTW3's problems with firmware. The Rev 0.1 has inferior hardware.

Thank you It's a bit confusing, did EVGA ever make any official statements about these issues? If so do you have a url? Only article I found was the "EVGA Reveals that Bad Soldering Was the Culprit behind Bricked RTX 3090 Cards" from the techpowerup site but it wasn't very detailed. What about undervolting, does it help taming a 3090 Rev 0.1 card? It doesn't matter if it's a "red lip" or "black lip" card? Only Rev 0.1 cards have the red lip or they may have the black lip as well? (EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra)

EVGA has not made an updated official statement about the issue. The only official statement EVGA made early on was about "bad soldering", even though that statement made no sense and was questioned without a response. The other relevant indicator from EVGA is that EVGA set up a special email address and replacement program to upgrade people from Rev 0.1 to Rev 1.0 3090 FTW3s, even though EVGA never officially admitted that the Rev 0.1 cards are inferior. You can see what is different between the two versions and read between the lines. The Rev 0.1 has an analog voltage controller and 50 amp power stages. The Rev 1.0 has a digital voltage controller and 70 amp power stages. The Rev 0.1 is not as good and not as reliable.

Thank you, I get it, what about cards with a "red lip" vs cards with "the black lip"? (EVGA RTX 3090 FTW3 Ultra) The red lip cards are Rev 0.1? Edit: Ok, did some searching, looks like both red lips and back lips cards can be Rev 0.1

Ok, hmmmm, looks like the used card I recently bought is a Rev 0.1 card, this will be "exciting"... It's a 20125 serial number card (made in China card), black lips. Bought by the original buyer early 2021. I have the receipt and the contact information for the buyer. Question: Did all 3090 FTW3 Ultra Rev 0.1 cards have bad soldering and this specific issue? Factory and serial number doesn't matter?

I am skeptical that any had a soldering issue (no proof), but assuming that some did, all of the ones which failed certainly couldn't have had a soldering issue (too common to be "rare"). Regardless, all Rev 0.1 3090 FTW3 cards have components which are inferior to Rev 1.0 cards. As far as that is concerned, all Rev 0.1 3090 FTW3s are "affected" by that shortcoming.
