Hello, I was given this motherboard (x58 Rampage III Extreme) by ASUS after they were unable to assist me with my x48 (version 1.0*) model. Unfortunately, while everything is functional and this system does work ... it has a boot issue. Nothing which hinders the performance, just a time delay (and sometimes BIOS-reconfiguration) on initial boot. I'm wondering if I were to [update/flash]* the BIOS, would that correct this issue any/at-all? I just loaded up a 512GB sATA SSD along with a 3TB sATA HDD [(C:/) & (D:/); respectively*] and formatted "Windows 10 x64 Pro" O.S. ... it took me a minute to get the Video-Drivers up-to-date ... unfortunately, something to do with out-dated version of Windows. Of course, everything is nominal now. Except, however, my audio. Windows can't seem to recognize that I have a 5.1ch system configured to the motherboards inputs -- would dealing with my BIOS concerns remedy this error* as well? I've fetched the Drivers from ASUS's portal -- to no avail. Nothing I attempt works. I cannot get my AUDIO working. -probably, I could hunt down a TV/Monitor and connect with a HDMI and use that AC ... but ... I would prefer to have my 5.1+DP setup. ... My main concern is that my audio is not functioning. Beyond that, dis-concerning the 'boot-issue', everything seems to be running fine. Here's the current build: - MoBo: LGA-1366 ASUS x58 Rampage III Extreme - CPU: 6-Core Intel Core i7-990X @ 3.6GHz + Chassis(*) {cooling} - RAM: 12GB DDR3 [6x2] Corsair Dominator GT @ 2000MHz, CL: 8 (CMT6GX3M3A2000C8) - GPU: 6GB EVGA RTX 2060 KO (06G-P4-2066-KR) - Chassis: DeepCool GamerStorm Genome II [Blk/Grn] Mid-ATX Thanks!

maybe they sent you a refurbished board & it is broke .? You could always just use the usb w/ some quality headphones ? or try some usb -> to audio jack converter plug for your speakers...

I haven't really "researched" much, but from what I can deduce -- having seen around -- apparently this motherboard is just 'known-defective' with its audio ... ? ... Considering the rest of the components, should I just spend the ~$150.00 and replace the motherboard out-right? *it were just given to me "free" (essentially). It's rather unfortunate; but, I suspect switching all my components to EVGA's x58 Classified LGA1366 ... *theoretically* everything will work just fine. ? - thoughts? Thanks.

Try getting the newest drivers Sajin linked a site to get them from. If they do not work, maybe pick up a PCIe sound card and drop it in. Something like a Creative Z or something similar? They sound better than most onboard chips do.

Pick up a soundcard or use a DAC converter into a USB port.

I'm looking into acquiring a soundcard. Unfortunately, at the moment -- concerning my boot issue. Lately, I've just been leaving the computer running to prevent dealing with having to boot it. Oops, I'd forgotten to remove idle-terminal parameters and the darn thing went to sleep! *It never wakes up* ... Completely rebooting the device** ... this happened a few times--However!The last time this occurred, the computer refused to get past POST. The system has 12GB of RAM installed, but POST hangs at "Initializing USB Controllers .. Done." and indicates 8184MB OK ... ... The Q_LED light is stuck on "BootDevices" ... My computer no longer appears to function. ... I've switched to the other BIOS chip, even ClearedCMOS ... nothing I do works, and the suspected boot concern/issue has now evolved into an Error. * I can't access BIOS -- it does not get boot past POST

I've done a Bench-Test, in the past--at the moment, I'm rotating out 1×module at a time to confirm functionality of the RAM(*since it idles at 8184MB OK w/ should report >12×××MB) ... My concern, however, is the Q_LED light hanging on 'BOOT DEVICE'. ... I'm no professional, but to me this would indicate/suggest that potentially the SBC is corrupt(*)?
-Thanks.
*EDIT* All RAM freezes at same POST interval (2040MB OK) [1×Stick at a time: no BIOS access]

Because of this, I went ahead and busted out my old(*) computer. I've confirmed functionality, that the speakers themselves are working. This computer too has same* issue! It's equipped with a SupremeFX X-Fi soundcard, too--however--and I still have no audio! MoBo: LGA-775 EVGA N-Force 790i Ultra Sli (132-CK-179-A1) CPU: 4-Core Intel Core 2 Extreme Qx9770 @ 3.8Hz + Zalman CNPS 12X RAM: 16GB DDR3 [4x4] G.Skill Ripjaws X @ 1866MHz, CL: 8 (F3-14900CL8D-8GBXM) GPU: 4GB EVGA GTX 1050 Ti SSC (04G-P4-6255-KR) Chassis: Antec-900 Mid-ATX w/: SupremeFX X-Fi SoundCard (from ASUS Rampage x48 Extreme) ... I could (for both terminals) use an HDMI cable and this would defeat the issues* of audio concerns. But, at the moment (for both terminals), I am using DisplayPort with Monitors which feature no speaker-integration. *Plugging my 5.1 into the ports on either the MoBo or the AudioCard does nothing.

Be sure Windows is actually defaulting to the correct device? Thinking of the X58 days... are you plugging in HD AUDIO or the AC97 connector??

I would say either ensure that the correct device is selected or try manually reinstalling the drivers.

I successfully updated my MoBo's Driver's to the most modern available file. ... In the O.S., opening "Sound Options" and accessing the "Sound Control Panel" .... playback devices don't show anything .... I fetched the only AUDIO files available from manufacturer, and I still can not get anything working. Because of the boot-issue, and the fact that NOTHING I do resolves audio concern -- short of trying a USB audio device (no$funds$atTheMoment) -- I feel the best course of action is to 100% replace this motherboard and advise anyone/everyone to avoid (****ty) "ASUS" [ENTIRELY]

Just an idea. In Device Manager under "Sound, Video and Game Controllers," does it list your audio device? If so you can try to update it from there. Or if that doesn't work you can delete it, restart computer, and see if Windows finds a good working driver.

:'( Apparently updating the BIOS was actually a bad idea (?!?!>.<?!?!) Other than the "Boot-Concern"/Issue ... except for the fact that the motherboards integrated audio functionality doesn't work, everything else surprisingly seems sound. I've went ahead and "stress-test" the build and have everything configured thereabouts 2000mhz&3.8GHz ... The only thing else I can do (aside from putting up with the boot problem) is to utilize the GPU's integrated Audio (HDMI/DP) - Thank goodness this board actually has 2x BIOS chips ... I was able to just default to the other (older) version and, less the audio, everything seems fine--relatively speaking. Imonna just migrate this to the kitchen and call it a loss... *MyGuess: SB-Chipset is Wonky? ... short of soldering circuitry, I'm at a loss. -EDIT- I did a complete rebuild/restore & reinstall of W10x64 (O.S.) ... in the meanwhile, I'm just waiting on a SoundCard (because I think the one I've Had may be defective) -- nothing is listed as an AudioSource, except the DP/HDMI (VC-Options) Thx!*
